How long are the cables?

straight out apart the cables are 36 inches. I've used them on big block, small block, diesels, and 4 cylinders.  not strong enough for a semi engine like a detroit or cat but will work on cummins and and v8 diesels available in normal trucks.  The big v8 diesels put the thing at about its max weight though.  even a 455 olds was no problem with it.

How much you paid for yours?

bought one back in 1995 for $35.00 from a parts store in Tacoma. The one I got off amazon was around $65.00.

What is the weight rating on this lift?

To be really honest, I have no clue. I do know it exceeds the capacity of my hoist.  I bought my first one 25 years ago. I have bought 2 recently because I have friends that are mad at me because I would not lend them mine. They were not found on the net until recently and I was not willing to lose mine when I could not get another.  I believe the weight limit is stated on the box but I did not read them before giving the gifts. Use this product and you will not go back to any of the alternatives. It is the only one I can pull engine and trans at the same time (straight 6 M30 BMW engine and 5 speed trans).  It allows me to turn the assembly from horizontal to almost vertical. Weight rating has never been an issue for me.

how difficult is it to change the angle when under the load of the average size and weight of  a vintage big block chevy.or Ford engine & trans.750lbs

I've done two engines and transmissions attached one 4cyl and one small block chevy with a T5 and adjusting/changing angles under load is easy the only minor issue I had is the locking lever that sets it securely in the various angle locking positions the lever is very small hard to use with gloves on, but as far as effort I used a small 18in-20in 1/2in breaker bar inserted into the lift and it was very easy. Best device I've used or bought for engine removal, I also used it for boat motor no problem
