This set has so many colors of metallic/pearlescent paint for the price!
I have been an artist for years but I only came to watercolor in the last year. Metallic paints and inks make me happy so I had to order this set because it has so many colors of metallic/pearlescent paint. I have discovered that the best way to use this paint is to use it in conjunction with traditional watercolors. These do not blend very well. But if you use them as a top layer on the regular watercolor the effect is beautiful. These pans do not have much paint in each pan, but the good news is it does not take much paint to get a beautiful effect, so this palette will last you longer than you think it will. Be sure to clean your brush each time you go to a different color so that you do not contaminate the paint pan! For the price this paint is excellent! I will buy it again when i use all mine up!

but they easily could have been
When these arrived, three of the cakes were loose inside the case. They weren't broken, but they easily could have been. The wells are nowhere near full, which is hard to see in the product picture, but because of the low price you do actually get your money's worth.Because they looked very hard and solid I let it sit for a couple of minutes with a drop of lukewarm water on one of the colors. Doing that gave me a surprisingly opaque result on black card stock, and made the paint very easy to work with. Working with a dry cake was much more difficult, so definitely soften your colors before starting. A few reviews here mention glitter, so just to be clear, the glimmer comes from mica. There's no glitter in this paint.Definitely a very good product in this price range.

Gotta play with them
You have to play with them in order to get the look you're going for. It takes quite a bit of water to get them to become a liquid type state (still pretty thick.) I just added a bunch of water to the cake and stirred until it was a thick consistency. I was unhappy with the amount of pigment it left so I used it as a "topper" to other paints. The color didn't really show, but the shimmer was kind of there. I ended up dabbing on paint and then blending it out with water. I painted a rainbow trout and used these to add the shimmer and it was quite beautiful. I gave had my set for over 4 years and I only have a few colors left but only because they cake pans were loose, fell out, and now are partying with single socks. However, the seller is not great. 1 star on that. The original order was supposed to go to Georgia and ended up in New Mexico. (I don't even know.) They were great at shipping out a new one (or as they said gave me the "correct tracking number") but it didn't come with the gift note it was supposed to come with; I couldn't even find the message on my order. Highly disappointing.

Decent shimmer ascent
Very inexpensive but a good set to keep in your watercolor or cardmaking Arsenal. The colors are pretty transparent, would be good as ascents like fish scales or shimmering liquid. Surprisingly they are not streaky when water to pigment ratio is below 50%. I played around to find that the color is hard to lift and apply if kind of dry but too much water would dilute shimmer too much. The colors do show up on white and black equally well. They are pretty understated. If you are really into bling, these cakes would be too tame. The swatch is arranged exactly as in the palette, numbers are top right long row to top left long row. On black the gold colors look similar (even orange gold 8). Silver and pinkish silver (7&20) don’t show well. Two greens (13 &19) are also close.

Delicious
At first, I thought that the pigment wasn't full enough in the little trays, but when I added water, I realized the purpose of having them below the top: the metallic bits float on the top so that you can create a watery shimmery liquid and apply THAT to your work to create that iridescent effect! Once I realized it, I was hooked!!! I have to stop myself from making everything look like Elvis on black velvet, lol, but seriously, the "just-a-touch" of iridescence is beautiful, especially in highlighting where sunlight meets metal, eyelashes, etc. LOVE!

Color deprived.
I was deeply disappointed by the performance of this product. The colors do not show well at all, they don't blend or layer. Sadly, it is a useless product. I tried several different art projects with these and got the same result, not enough color.I understand the concept of transparent watercolors, but these paints have no color. You will also find that the cups are scantily filled. I can't recommend this product.

Nice hobbiest paints for the price
Arrived in good shape but very little paint in the pans. It swelled up quite a bit after a few drop of water was left sitting the the pan so I'm not upset, just surprised by the difference in volume between wet and dry. If it matters, I'm used to tubes, not pan, which may explain my surprise.Other than my initial thoughts regarding the amount of paint, I was happy with the color saturation and the amount of shimmer.

Nice effect to add to painting techniques - beginner or professional
Beautiful results with this product. Not as opaque as you might think, so better to use it OVER an area already painted and see the color pop!. Lovely effect. Like other reviewers, I found that there is very little paint in each pod... maybe 1/4" think at the most. Works great with a water-pen rather than a paint brush as well.
