The media could not be loaded. I found myself needing a way to test fire my guns without having to make the 10 mile round trip back and forth to my local gun club so after mulling it over I decided on what I felt would be best for me.After researching my options, I decided that I could put together a safe and workable alternative. I had an old milk crate taking up space in my garage that had the perfect ID and OD dimensions.I called my local steel guy and ordered a piece of steel plate1/2 inch thick by 12 X12 to use as a backstop, and 4 1/4 inch X 12 X 12 to box in both sides and top and bottom. The attached pictures were taken before the other plates came in.Additionally In order to use it prior to the other plates arriving (not recommended), I placed the ballistic rubber block inside the milk crate, surrounded it on all sides and the top with 50 lb sand bags ( in lieu of using the recommended rubber filler) which I hope to upgrade to. I successfully test fired my 9mm AR pistol by firing 4 rounds through the face of the 2" ballistic rubber block. Upon investigation I found that several rounds penetrated the rubber and hit the plate steel back stop falling harmlessly onto the bottom of the crate.I am completely satisfied with this ballistic rubber block and I plan on finishing this project up by filling it with the recommended rubber mulch to catch any flying bits of casing or lead. I whole heartedly endorce and recommend this ballistic rubber block. Further more, eventually I am planning on purchasing the portable unit as it certainly has much more thought and research put into it's safety features.
