Arsene Lupin, what a character!
I was introduced to the Arsene Lupin series in a college class on detective novels. And now I can't get enough of him! This first book, "The Exploits of Arsene Lupin" is a great collection of short stories by Maurice LeBlanc about a witty, sophisticated, sly, gentleman named Arsene Lupin who is a master thief, and the bane of every aristocrat and policeman in France, especially the determined detective, Lupin's arch-nemesis Ganimard. Written in the early 1900s, Lupin would go on to star in more than 15 novels by LeBlanc, including two that have still not been translated into English. This is the start of the series, so definitely read this first. You'll get all of the backstory you need on Lupin and his adventures of stealing, taunting the police, and yet still doing moral good. Lupin is a very likeable and deep character.I totally recommend this series for anyone who loves detective fiction, or the Lupin III anime (On which the character Arsene Lupin III is based off of), or even short serial novels. Maurice LeBlanc has an easygoing writing style, whose language is of the time period but is still very easy to read today, I would say a little bit more than Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and the Sherlock Holmes books. And be sure to look out for "Homlock Shears/Herlock Sholmes", LeBlanc's way of including the great English detective (Who is the star of the 2nd Arsene Lupin novel!) in the last story of this book. You can't go wrong with Arsene Lupin!PS: If you want to buy this book and others in the Arsene Lupin series, buy the Wildside Press editions, all of which were published in the early 2000s. For "The Exploits of Arsene Lupin" it is the one with the pink cover, and holds the same cover ("ARSENE LUPIN IN....") for many of the later Arsene Lupin books also published by Wildside. The other ones listed here on Amazon are not always the correct book, and are print on demand copies, of which the translation and printing are suspect.

dated but engaging
Excellent stories about the master of sleight of hand, Arsène Lupin. In some he works as a sort of Robin Hood, in others he is the villain. But never with violence, always with cleverness. Delightful.

Beautifully done book
An amazing job was done printing and binding this book. It's like a work of art, and will get a prominent place on my shelf. Well worth the price and I hope to purchase more such works from this seller in the future.

The best Crime Fiction Most People Have Never Read
Anybody intersted in crime fiction is definately in for a treat. Leblanc's tales are some of the best I've read, and Arsene Lupin is easily one of my new favorite Gentleman Burglar charcters of all time. While written in the very early 1900's and translated from French, the language reflects the time period, but at the same time remains very accessable and easy to read. These stories are also terribly clever. Lupin is a perfectly likable character who is always out-thinking and out-smarting just about everybody he comes across. My only wish for this book, was that there was a bit more in it. 150 pages can read pretty fast, and it definately leaves you wanting more, but it is an excellent book and well worth having in your collection.

Arsene Lupin vs Shoddy Publishing
The stories themselves are worth 5 stars, the earliest Lupin adventures by Maurice LeBlanc are classics, thankfully compiled here in their original order (other translated editions typically include miscellaneous tales). However, the book is flimsy for the price - delivered with bent corners - and, what is worse, the editing is substandard. A typo on the first line of the book! Lupin and LeBlanc deserve better.

Enjoyable read
I found this collection of short stories by Maurice Leblanc to be very enjoyable. Mon. Lupin is a unique character who is quite impressive in keeping one step ahead of the French police. A quick read of great mysteries.

I read Arsine Upin when I was young and enjoyed Maurice Lablanc cleaverness
I read Arsine Upin when I was young and enjoyed Maurice Lablanc cleaverness. I read it now as a senior citizen and still find it entertaining..Clever plots and easy read. I find I need to read that kind of material in between reading serious books about history, world issues and medical texts as I am a retired physician. This book has several short stories, but guaranteed to entertain you and you will find it is difficult to put down.

Clever like Holmes, but harder to find
Lupin was the original "Gentleman Thief". Serialized in the late Victorian/Early Edwardian times he was the French contemporary of Doyle's Holmes, but while Holmes investigate crime, Lupin commited them! There was even a crossover story, but due to copywrite issues LeBlanc had to use a fake name for Sherlock. (This is especially funny because LeBlanc's estate fought and lost an international copywrite fight with Japan over the name of a Japanes Comic character: Lupin III)There is also a movie base on Arsene Lupin, but it is nearly impossible to find it in a region 1.[...]
