Hudson Automobiles (An Illustrated History)

Wish there was more
Good for 1950’s models, but needs much more information and pictures for models from the early 20th century.

An excellent reference for Hudson fans
Having been to several Hudson museums, I found this to be an interesting reference for a gear head such as myself.

Historical and entertaining
Always enjoy any car book by Pat Foster. Well written, informative, and entertaining as his books always are. Covers the history as well as some insight about the car and the people of the Hudson Company.

A good overview of Hudson
Covering details from a GREAT COMPANY to it's down fall - management is always the most important engine. A good read and the pictures are great.

Hudson Automobiles
Overall good book. Decent pictures, would be nice to have more detail between models. A good addition to add to your Hudson library.

An excellent pictorial survey of a great American brand
There are so few books available on the Hudson marque that any addition to the selection is welcome. This book by Iconigrafix covers the story from its beginnings right through the last Hudsons in 1957. There are 126 pages of excellent photos and illustrations, from sepia through black and white to colour. Usually the photos in Iconografix publications come from the manufacturers' archives so they are frequently carefully staged and even enhanced. The pictures include static shots of the cars as well as cars in various settings posed for advertisements. The text provides interesting and quite comprehensive information but this is primarily a book of photos so if you're looking for the inside story on all the decisions that made Hudson flourish and then disappear, this may not be the best source. On the other hand, there's plenty of information in the text and the captions tend to be lengthy, detailed and very informative as well.Of course, there are also photos of the Essex, a Hudson companion brand, as well as the Terraplane that came later. For me the best part of the Hudson story is the great cars that were introduced just before WW2 and immediately afterward, when the step-down Hudsons were far ahead of anything made by the Big Three. With its outstanding photos and informative and detailed text this is a must have for anyone who is a fan of the Hudson brand and I recommend it without reservation. If you're a more general car fan this might be the best single book for your collection that didn't have anything on Hudson before now.

Short on Research and Poorly edited
Not worth the money. One of the poorer car books I have purchased. The author relied on secondary research (mostly annual financial reports?) and seemingly not a lot else.Captions do not match the photos in more than one case.3 stars might be high.

Lover of Old Cars
I bought this gift as a book for someone who loves and owns antique cars. He was delighted with it. He is a much better judge of this kind of book than I am.
