Great product but wish I also had the larger one
I've been using the 2"x7" auger for the last couple of days and it does a great job. However, I am finding that the width of the holes is really tight for getting daffodil bulbs planted and I expect the same for the tulips I'll be planting in two days. Plus the recommended depth for some of the bulbs I'm planting is six to eight inches. Since this auger is only seven inches, it makes it difficult to get to the required depth. Many of the bulbs I planted needed to be just four inches down and were pretty small bulbs so this auger was just right for those. But having the 3"x12" auger in addition to this one would be the way I'd want to go for those larger daffodil and tulips bulbs. Also, I would recommend using some 12" kitchen tongs with this auger. Drill the hole, then use the tongs to clean out the hole since dirt will invariably fall back in to the hole. You can also use the tongs to place the bulb upright in the hole since you are not likely going to be able to reach down to the bottom to manipulate the bulb with your fingers.

Bulb blaster !
We tried digging a few holes by hand but that was slow and WAY too much work in our hard Colorado clay soil. And with 35 bulbs to get in, I searched for a better tool and found this. What a life saver! I laughed happy at how easy almost every hole was. The 2" diameter and 7" depth was perfect in my Ryobi cordless drill. As others have pointed out, adjust the clutch somewhat loose as you WILL encounter roots and maybe rocks and this will keep the drill from jerking in your hands. Adjust your speed for the soil conditions. I kept a long spoon handy to dig out dirt that fell back into the hole. Then dropped the bulb in and covered with with a handful of good potting soil. Anyway this auger made this an easy job and it makes me want to plant twice as many bulbs next year just to use it again. Good tools are SO worth the money and this is one of those! You will be glad you bought it.

Zoysia Plug machine!!!
I purchased this with some reserved - I am glad (so far) used it to plant Zoysia plugs. I used a 18-volt Ryobi cordless drill-set the drill on low speed-I didn't want the dirt slinging everywhere. I stopped the auger half way for the zoysia plugs-A couple of times I went too deep!?! That wasn't an issue-justed pushed the dirt back in. I guess you could put a piece of tape on it -as the "stop mark". The unit wasn't fully welded between the spiral and the shaft. It was just tack welded at the top and bottom. I am not sure about the longevity or durability yet. The metal was NOT flimsy. I had to re-chuck the Auger once because it came loose. No issues after that. I installed 200 Plugs. The dirt did stick slightly -but hey is dirt and damp!?!! This auger works great. I bought it to put in some Zoysia plugs but works great for Fall bulbs as well.

EASY TO USE IN THE GARDEN
FOR GARDENING, NO ONE WANTS TO BE BENT OVER THE WHOLE TIME WE ARE PUTTING PLANTS IN THE GROUND. HOOK THIS TO A HAND DRILL AND AWAY YOU GO. MAKES THOSE HOLES EASY AND LITTLE EFFORT. WE ADDED ADDITIONAL LENGTH TO THE ROD. THAT WAY NO ONE HAS TO BEND OVER VERY FAR. MUCH BETTER FOR BAD BACKS. AND A GOOD PRICE.

Watch your wrists
In clean soil this auger is probably great. In rocky soil with interwoven errant roots, it will bind up and can really hurt your wrists if you're not careful. I go in small steps and low power and keep a shovel and axe for the roots handy because new England has more rocks than soil. It is definitely a time and back saver, and it has not dented or chipped when it hit rocks.

Comes in handy for our lawn and garden work.
My wife will use it for planting bulbs. I am using now to plant tree spikes. It works well in our hard clay. Well made, designed and very sturdy. Works best in hard compacted soil with my electric powered impact drill. Good in soft soil using battery powered drill.

The only ONLY way to plant hundreds of bulbs
I've tried a spade, the hand bulb planter tool, and the pogo stick bulb planter tool. Everything here will make your back hurt. The pogo stick version is the best, but dirt gets stuck in it, so you'll need a pipe to push the mid back out with each hold. It's a pain. The augur still is a bit of a pain, but paired with a corded powerful drill it's almost a pleasure to use. I've hit submerged tree stumps by mistake and the augor starts tearing through the cedar wood easily. If the auger hits rocks, the rocks are vomited out of the hole easily. I was able to plan over a hundred bulbs in half an hour. It's also advisable to use gloves and knee pads with any of these options. I used the auger to plant over two hundred daffs and tulips.

Just okay
I bought this item this fall to help with planting bulbs. I thought that it would drill a deep enough (6 inches or more) hole to just drop in a bulb. It would only drill down about 5 inches and no more. The ground I was working in was quite moist & dense. I will try it again in spring in dryer soil. I was disappointed in that I ended up using another garden tool to get the job done. Nothing substitutes for good hard work, I guess.

I use it with a cordless drill for installing 3' foot long, 2" posts in the ground. Works well in all soil conditions. Good quality.
