China: Mao's Republic to World Superpower
I was pleasantly surprised when I received this book, as when I was looking at the title, I was very unsure about it. It sounds like it would be something that is super boring and not be a very interesting read, but I was glad I was so wrong. This book may be a small book, but it sure packs a lot of information into its pages. I mean, everyone knows China is a huge exporter of goods, as most things you see in this country are made in China, but it is amazing to learn some of the facts about their booming economy. This book also opens your eyes to the struggles that people in China still have today. This book would be great for kids who have "those projects" in school where they need to research certain countries, because it's a fairly quick read, and it gives you a wealth of information. It's nice that there are also pictures included in this book for reference. I would recommend this book to anyone who might be interested in learning about another culture for a minimal price. I received this product complimentary for my honest review.

Surprisingly Interesting and a Quick Read
As someone who last took world history quite some time ago <cough>decades<cough>, I had forgotten most of what I’d learned about Chinese history. The Lightening Guide provided a broad overview of a large period of Chinese history in a pretty easy to read and bite-sized format. While it won’t prep you for a history final, I found it to be a quick and interesting read that gave me enough of an overview to speak intelligently. It also provided high level information on the current day culture and environment of China even outlining the top Chinese film makers. While it doesn’t go into in-depth detail I felt like I had a stronger grasp on Chinese history and culture after reading it. It’s a perfect primer looking to get a broad overview.I received this book at no cost in exchange for my review. My opinions are my own.

Small book but great read and informative
Ok so normally just looking at the title of a book like this I would have been uh no looks boring!! But it actually turned out to be quite an interesting read. Yes we hear lots of things about China, but it was actually nice to read this book about China, and not be overwhelmed. First it's not a big book it's small and not all printed, there all several pictures included, and it's 100 pages, so yes it's not a book that is going to overwhelm you. I'm usually intimidated by those big books with tons of words!! This book covered a little of everything, China's struggles, it's leaders, it's manufacturing, and also along some of the pages are Did you know Facts! By the end I really enjoyed the book and learned things about China, that I had no clue about. If you love reading books and learning about another country this is a good read. My son is now reading the book which I think is something good for him to read. I received this book free in exchange for my honest unbiased review.

Strong guide with lots of information
The Lighting Guide for China is a really well rounded guide with lots of different types of interesting information. You are given very manageable cl, hunks of information in chapters that are very easy to read as well as interesting “Did you know” types of information. This book also comes with a bibliography and index which is nice to see. The only thing I would have to knock the guide for is that it has a number of pictures within the guide. The pictures within the guide made it feel more like it was written for a preteen/middle school student wanting to know more about China’s more recent history. Other than that, the guide gives solid information, is well written and provides interesting information. This product was received in exchange for an unbiased honest review.

This book all in all was a great little short read to get some information on China
Let me start by saying this book is aptly titled, the book focuses mainly on Mao's Republic. This book all in all was a great little short read to get some information on China, in no way is it a comprehensive guide and I personally would recommend another book if your sole purpose is to get information that would relate to your travel. However, referring back to my first comment this book is quite comprehensive on talking about the history of China, mainly in regards to the Mao's Republic. What I personally loved about this book is that on many of the pages there are interesting facts about China, one page at the very beginning tells us that China falls all in one time zone which results in some places sunrise being at 10 am, I find that so incredible! Aside from the history of Mao's Empire, there are also sections on products made in china, production and pollution, the effects of taking on western diets, feminism, and the Chinese dream. Overall this is a great quick little read to learn something about China. Received for my honest review.

Very interesting read for someone who didn't know anything about China
I highly enjoyed reading this book. If there is something you want to know about China I suggest reading this book. I certainly found it interesting to know how so many things we buy are made in China, which makes them a big powerhouse in the export industry. I learned from this book that even with China exports that have risen to some $ 2.3 trillion and with a soaring economy, millions of Chinese citizens still struggle for access to fundamental needs, like blankets for the winter and clean drinking water. As a person who did not know anything about China, I found this book to be full of information on different topics from their relations to Russia to the feminism in China. I think my children would find this book an easy read and would be able to get plenty of information if they needed to write a report on China. I was provided this book for review purposes all opinions are my honest and unbiased opinion.
