Very simple to use and handles small and large form factor disks
This item was plug and play, and it recognised the loaded hard disk immediately. High speed access via USB3 interface. Allowed me to rescue data and reinitialise a disk corrupted by power failure using just my laptop and this dock. Perfect tool for the job.

Works well but cloning might not work for you
I used the double dock to transfer 6TB of NAS data to a new 8TB 3.5" SATA drive. I tried using the clone button. It started to clone though it is a little trial & error to get started. The first two partitions were cloned but then failed after only 1.6Gb were transferred. However, I had 8 sector errors on my drive and believe some of them were hardware related. I don't think anything would clone a damaged drive - so I don't consider the clone a failure.I was able to mount both drives onto my PC and begin a copy this way. This was eventually successful.

Useful item.
I bought this item for using SATA drive externally and it works very well. I have not tested other functions. It is plug and play unit.

Simple and fast
Easy to set up basically plug and play. Reads all my drives with decent speed. Haven't used the copy facility yet. Have used old hdd and newer ssd with no issues.Excellent product.

Corrupted over 4TB of data
I bought this dock to be able to retrieve over 4TB of data on drives from an old PC.After plugging the drives to the dock, linking it to a new PC and powering it up, the drives showed as unformatted RAW file systems. All were originally either FAT or ExFAT.** The drives were immediately corrupted into unreadable slabs. **I work in IT support for a major bank, and I know what I'm doing around all sorts of hardware and software, and this dock was easy to setup and use... the only problem is that it's about as useful as dragging an electromagnet across my drives (which for those of you who don't know, is not a good idea). It's relatively cheap, but certainly isn't cheerful and has lost me a massive amount of data that I was hoping to save.Thank goodness Amazon returns are painless - unlike this garbage.

Its old and slow
The device works well enough but suffers form the fact it an Old type device and suffers when cloning LARGE amounts of data (E.G.) it took 36 hours to clone a 2TB drive

Ordered this a few days ago....arrived ok DOES NOT WORK...will not even power up. Also...IT IS NOT NEW ..it has marks on it, I think it was previously returned by another unhappy customer before being sent out to me...I am very angry ....and then there is no way to contact the seller. I advise people to stop using Amazon, it is OK when you get the item you were expecting and it works.....but if you have any problems you cannot get in touch to get it sorted....OH nyes, they do have an automated app ....that doesn't understand anything you ask. This is all extremely frustrating

It works if your careful
This dock device works with Linuxmint 20.x. SATA HHDs/SSDs work. On Linux, each first level folder it finds on the drive is automatically mounted separately to the desktop. Only supports SATA drives - cannot connect IDE drives. It uses the faster UASP (USB Attached SCSI Protocol) over USB 3.0. At least for me, with UASP, the highest transfer speed I saw was around 230 MB/s (something like that). However, overtime the speed slows down as a file transfers. However, it's still faster than native USB 3.0. I tried using another USB 3.1 capable enclosure (Orinco brand - clear plastic) connected to USB 3.0 on the motherboard. With native USB 3.0, the transfer speed was around 30 MB/s. So, UASP makes data transfers faster. Didn't test with any Windows operating systems - might be even faster - not sure.It sleeps after 30 minutes and I'm still not sure how to wake it up yet. It's supports "hot swapable", however it's too easy to remove a drive when its doing something (not good). Put a drive you want to use in the back slot first.I didn't try the "offline" feature of cloning a drive by pressing the front button for 3 secs (i think it's 3...have to look again). I recall it copies FROM the back slot TO the front slot. Also, I didn't try to format a drive with it but from what I've read it's supposed to work.I put in an older ZFS formated drive and it was able to see the drive, but couldn't mount it because it was only one drive from a multi-disk pool.It seems to have written MBR on my exFAT formated 4 TB SSD drive, however I'm not sure what slot the SSD drive was in, if the device went to sleep, etc. Anyhow, a MBR (Master Boot Record) was written to the drive (I didn't put it there) and the drive then reported as a DOS disk. LOL. The list of files on it dissapeared because of this, but since I didn't write to the drive after that happened, I was able to recover the full files with the free opensource software called Testdisk by CGSecurity (Google it, it works fairly well and works on a number of operating systems). I even used the dock to recover the files...LOL, because it wasn't critical data on the drive. Just kicking the tires. I wouldn't use this dock to recover files normally.I still need to test if this dock works while connected to a router's USB port but I read it should work (as long as your router can read the files and share them). Will it serve up files? Will it go to sleep and prevent you from accessing the files? I don't know yet. I need to try this.I'd rather use something with fault tolerance instead of this. I won't use this dock with drives that have important data on them (or not backed up data). Make sure you back up your important data with a reliable method/hardware.Even with all that said, it's still a handy device to have as long as you are careful.
