Sketching: The Basics Review: Fantastic Step By Step Guide For Absolute Beginners - I'm a designer and bought this book for my daughter so she can build up her portfolio for her college application to industrial design programs. As expected, it's fantastic. It starts slow and easy, explaining basics and building up skills to drawing more elaborate forms. You can treat it like a full course and it gradually covers the necessary basics needed for product sketching: perspective, basic 3D forms and shapes (ie. boxes, spheres, tubes, rounded corners), viewpoint, shadow, color, detailing, line widths, etc. The authors also do a great job explaining each element very clearly, its importance, and how it contributes to the overall sketch and then providing suggestions for practice. This is the book I wish I had when I was in school! Review: Not to Learn sketching - The book is for learning product design or something. It doesn’t help with sketching. It was useless to me and I returned it.
