Perfect for what I needed
There are some things that are just easier to do from the phone than computer and making videos is obviously one of them. The camera on my iPhone is great but the mic gives terrible sound quality. I used to record on the computer and iPhone at the same time and sync the computer audio to the phone video. This lets me do everything on the phone at once and save a bunch of time and complication. It’s easy to use, provides phantoms power for condenser microphones and uses the native apps on my phone. Awesome.

What an awesome tool for prosumers!
Do you have a prosumer device like a DSLR or high end phone that you use for content creation, but want to take your audio to the next level? This is an EXCELLENT and darned near perfect tool for it!I often shoot corporate video with Sony A7 series cameras which only offer a single stereo 3.5mm jack. I just used this product for a shoot in which I could attach 2 XLR cables (dual mic interview) and adjust the volume with an analog dial for each in real time! Setting the switch to camera made the appropriate pin mix for the 3.5mm input so that one mic is on left and the other the right channel, and I can then extract and mix in post like my ENG cameras!I haven't tried the smartphone mode (changes the TRS pins to TRRS I believe) however most smartphones these days don't have native headphone jacks anyway so I'm not sure that's the wisest use of this product. However I could see this being great for laptops with a single TRRS headset jack (combines both earphones and mic into a single plug), it even supports headphone monitoring in that scenario! There's even phantom power on board for those non-self-powered pro mics.A couple of things to note:It needs a 9v battery to operate, even without phantom power. I was hoping that since I didn't need to power my dynamic mics, I could use this as an analog pass-through mixer, however without a battery it will not send any sound out the cable at all. It needs power. That's a bummer, but it seems like the 9V battery will last many uses before I need to replace it.The other thing that irked me: This thing needs mounting options! It has a belt loop style buckle (shown) so you can wear it around your waist, but I wish it had some threading (1/4" 20 standard maybe?) or something to mount it to a camera or clamp or something. For now, I wrapped some gaffer's tape around a tripod leg and through the buckle part to hold it on. Maybe I'll get some velcro-style strips to secure it there next time. Such a minor oversight that would have had HUGE gains in usability. Otherwise, I'm happy with this product and intend to use it often!

almost perfect
This amplifier/adapter works well, but not perfect yet. The volume controls are finicky. Adjusting it is hit or miss sometimes. The volume response is not consistent. For example, if I turn the knob about half way. Sometimes, it sounds perfect, sometimes it's too low, sometimes it's too high. When it's too low, I almost couldn't hear anything or see the audio meter. Same when it's too high, it would peak past red. This is on the same microphone on the same person.I also don't like that it doesn't really have a good attachment option. The strap is kind of weird. For some things, it's too big so it doesn't strap on tight. I wish there was a cold shoe mount option on this.I do like that I can plug either a 3.5mm mic or XLR mic in and not have to change any settings. That is a big plus.

Flimsy
This product was too flimsy to be dropped three times over the course of a month and survive. The cords were also too short to be hung on a headphone rack for ease in not having to hold it during the recordings be cause if I didn’t the weight would drop it to the floor, whether on a table or hanging on a headphone rack. Nice unit; but, too flimsy for the money to last very long. Mine broke after only three accidental falls to the floor.

Perfect to create quality sounds without a large studio
This microphone and amplifier adapter it’s perfect for when I want to record music using my phone. My acoustic guitar has an XLR port to it so I can plug this right into it and then record the sound from the guitar into my phone. This microphone amplifier adapter it’s perfect for when I want to record music using my phone. This allows me to get high quality recordings using Just my phone rather than going into an expensive studio. I think this is perfect for the low budget musician that just wants to create some content.
