Best Chess Set Ever - Chess Board Game with Quadruple Weight Tournament Pieces, Black Chess Board, Chess Strategy Guide and Game Box

This is a well crafted, solid and attractive set, with moderately large, traditionally shaped pieces. Pieces have a nice heft to them. They certainly won't slip or fall over as they are weighted, and felted on the bottom. Board is a conveniently portable silicone rubber mat with crisp, roomy black and white squares. The rows and column numbers and letters are clearly and unobtrusively marked. Two Queens per color is also a real plus. Yes, the Queens' crowns have little points,but these are not going to hurt anyone unless they deliberately jam their hand down on them. I'm looking forward to playing my first game with this set.

ME: USCF 1700 player who is teaching his 2 sons to play (8- and 5-years old). I have other chess sets, but wanted something kids can knock around without damaging the pieces and board.THE SET: Arrived in only 2 days (even though they had 5-7 days). Extremely well-built pieces. They really are super durable and quadruple weighted. Everything comes in a very nice, thick box which can easily store the set long-term and should hold up for a long time. Portland Chess Shop does it right (and I'm just a guy who purchased from Amazon due to the reviews... no affiliation with the vendor)!A NOTE ON THE BOARD (AKA: What you should expect): Silicon boards are amazing and are my favorite. This one is high-quality, lies flat even after being folded, fits the pieces perfectly, and has coordinates. That said, please expect it to pick up dust and to grip the pieces a little more tightly than boards made from other materials. It rinses off easily. I love how thin the board is.A NOTE ON THE QUEEN PIECES: 2 additional queens are provided, for pawn-promotion purposes. The set comes with the crowns wrapped in cardboard because they have very sharp points on the crowns. For my purposes, I like them a lot. They look great and are easy to handle. However, I angle them away from the board when I put the set away, since I don't want to risk any damage to the silicon board.***** Recommended *****

This is an excellent Chess Set. All the pieces are made to tournament quality. It is an excellent set to teach children how to play chess. The board folds up for easy storage. My only complaint would be that the pieces come in cheap plastic bag which may be replaced by zippered plastic bag. All fit into the box and can be taken anywhere. We filed down the tips on the Queen pieces which seemed rather sharp, but no biggie. Happy with my purchase

I've ordered several chess sets of late. From Amazon and also the USCF. So, if I hope I have the right set when I say that the only detraction to the set is the Queen's crown: it has very sharp points. This mattered to me, as the set was a donation to a local school, and the pointy Queen was a very real drawback. I think I ended up donating the other set from USCF. Other than that, the weighting is great. I have tended to buy triple weight, but went with the quadruple weight in hope the set would be that much better for outdoor play. Inside, triple weight is fine, but outside the quadruple would likely be better.

The product is everything as described. The pieces are heavy, with a nice heft. The board lies flat, and can be rolled up for travel. Super convenient. The Queen's crown is a bit pointy, I filed it down a bit; but for adults, no problems. The felt on the bottoms of the pieces is a nice touch. In short, everything is as described and promised. Delivery was faster than expected, which was nice also.

The chess pieces are very nice.

Great size and weight. The board has a odor but I got rid of the smell by soaking it in soapy water overnight.

Hi, this is an awesome chess set, great weight and design of the pieces. I just got it last night and took it straight to work to open the box and play with my coworkers but one black queen has a chipped crown. The pieces are pretty detailed especially the queens crown and knights so I can see why it was chipped. can you please send a replacement? Thanks!
