Amazing sound from a slim profile speaker
I recently upgraded televisions to a 78" Samsung, and decided that my Def Tech Mythos XTR-40's just didn't do that big bright screen justice. I wanted to stay low-profile, so after waffling between the XTR-60s and the MartinLogan SLM-XLs, I decided that wanted to go the MartinLogan route. I am so glad I did. Driven by an Onkyo TX-NR838, and paired with a Def Tech Supercube II, I found that the SLM-XLs are incredibly well balanced. The highs are warmer and less brash than the Def Techs. While none of the slim speakers go too far down in the bass range, these bring a nice tight punchiness to the sub's bass notes. We watched a few movies and were surprised how much more acoustic detail was present compared to the XTR-40s. I'm so impressed, I'm getting some Motion FX surround speakers to replace my Def Tech surrounds. The speakers are packed well - I was initially concerned because the boxes were pretty beaten up, but the speakers, stands, and hardware were absolutely fine. They come with wall mounts, stands, and hardware.Visually, they nicely complement a thin panel - they are tall enough to look good even next to a 78" screen. They are also pretty light - my house floorplan essentially forces a corner, above-fireplace TV mount - so I have both my TV and my L-C-R speakers mounted on a fully articulated Omnimount beast. I think it would be very hard to beat the sound quality in this application.Attached picture shows relative size to a curved Samsung 78"

Good for their intended use but…
These do sound good, given the size of their drivers and enclosure. However, they are easily blown away by “real” speakers with larger drivers and enclosures, even by a set of similarly-priced bookshelf speakers that I own. That is OK with me, since I always intended to use them only as surround speakers in my main home theater system. I also had them in mind for possible use as the main speakers in a smaller room system. The answer to that was a firm “no.” In short, I would not use these as my main HT speakers unless circumstances (e.g., space or “spousal acceptance factor”) left no alternative.

Excellent
Great sound for its size. As good as many floor standing speakers from high end manufacturers. Good sound staging and bass response.

Slim and powerful
I needed a slim and good sounding center channel. This worked out great. It out performed my old center channel and has great sound and clarity. If you have limited space available, this is perfect.

Excellent speaker, I needed to replace a B&W HTM-7 center speaker that just had no place to sit now that the TV iwas mounted over a fire place, I did some research and found this speaker, installation was a zip.. Adjusted the Macintosh amplifier for sound d boom it was up and working. The owner seems to like it, I mentioned that Martin Logan claims it takes 80-100 hours of use before the speakers are properly broken in and until then they will continue to sound better and better, which is amazing because it sounds so good out of the box.

These sound as good or better and take up no space at all
Replaced a pair of Klipch tower speakers that were taking up 2 feet of depth in my living room. These sound as good or better and take up no space at all. It's like getting a 10% bigger apartment for the cost of a pair of speakers!
