Excellent product.
Squares up pen blanks good.

This pen blank cutter good concept— does not work.
Rarely do I give bad reviews. Did not work well at all. Would be better to have four cutting blades rather than two. My experience is that it made a very ruff uneven cut on wood and resin blanks— Returned it for my money back.

Very aggressive
It's a nice cutter but very aggressive when cutting. I found it does better with higher RPM and a very light touch.

Works great
I really like the clean ends. Works much better than a traditional barrel trimmer. You do need to place blank on a solid surface and then go slow. Almost let gravity pull the drill down. I just did 3 blanks and 1 was a corncob. Worked perfect and went very fast.

Good idea, poor execution
Because of the angle of the cutters, the carbide cutters are merely scraping the end grain on your pen blanks. That causes this tool to chatter excessively, leaving a really rough and uneven surface. I had to pen blanks explode. I thought this would be a significant upgrade, but it was really flawed.

Great concept but incompatible with other pilot reamers
Comes with the cutters installed. The method of using sleeves to size up the basic 7mm pilot reamer to larger diameters does not work for me. I know from previous experience that the sleeve method is slow and fussy, and the sleeve rides up and dulls the cutters. I bought this hoping it was compatible with the 7mm shaft pilot reamers from my other cutters also made by PSI. But the shaft that goes into the chuck is smaller than the 7mm diameter of the other PSI pilot shafts. Because this is a large diameter head you have to press down slower than with a smaller head. It will catch or break an acrylic blank if you go too fast. But I love the idea of replaceable cutters and may just keep this as a dedicated 7mm cutter. It should be several years before I have to replace the cutters.

Works very well with good technique.
I purchased this from Pennstateind.com. The acrylic blanks I had were round so I had to come up with a way to drill the 3/8" hole for the tubes. I secured the blanks in my PSI Chuck and I used a drill chuck on the tail stuck and advanced the drill bit using the crank advance on the tail stock. I used the same technique to trim the blanks. At first, I ran the lathe at 900 rpm. It worked well for the blue blank, the striped one, however had a big chip. I prepared another blank, and this time ran the lathe at 1800 rpms, and the trimmer worked like a charm. I had to advance the trimmer very slowly and it gave very fine shavings.
