Simple, effective and excellent value for money
The Lawnmaster L10 is as simple a robot mower that you can buy. The manufacturers have stripped its functionality down to the very minimum. As a result, it is super simple to use but does the job very effectively. Before I review the robot, I ought to say that it was replacing a previously installed Flymo 1200r that had worked pretty effectively for 8 years. Some of the issues that we have had to overcome are a result of trying to use the 1200r boundary wire as the new boundary wire for the L10. In short, that caused a lot of problems, which I will try to explain. The L10 uses a single boundary wire to both mark its territory and find its way (anti-clockwise) back to the base station. The 1200r simply used the boundary wire as its edge marker, and needed a separate guide wire to find its way home. In short, I had laid the 1200r boundary too close to hedges and lawn edges. When the L10 attempted to straddle the boundary wire to find its way home, it hit the hedge/bush/tree/edge and couldn’t get past. This required me to splice into the existing wire and lay a new boundary wire the recommended 30cm in from the actual edge. This doesn’t change how effective the cut is, but it did mean a lot of splicing. I think I replaced about 40% of the old boundary wire and it took some trial and error. You may decide to simply lay a whole new wire that adheres to the LawnMaster spec. I persevered and now have a hybrid of 1200r and L10 boundary wire that works. The L10 uses random walk to cut your lawn, placing the cuttings back on the surface to mulch. It’s very manoeuvrable, so does a good job of bumping into things, reversing and extracting itself from tight corners. Trial and error is required for spots it has trouble with, but our experience is that its much less prone to getting trapped than the 1200r was. A few observations and quibbles where we have found them: - It will start its daily routine at the time you switched it on with its main power switch. If you want it to start its day at 7am, for example, you are going to have to get up at that time and flick the switch. Should you ever switch it off again, you’ll need to get up early again to re-start. (The 1200r had a programmable timer, this is one of the costs of the simpler L10 design). - There is no “manual” mode like the 1200r. If you need to pick up and place the L10 on a secondary isolated piece of lawn, the L10 will still try to follow its boundary wire home. This will mean it will get stuck on any lawn that is an “island” (yet still connected via a narrow boundary wire). Not a great problem, however, - If, like us, you have one of these “island” lawns, and the mower tries to follow the boundary wire into it, it will get stuck at the narrow entrance. This is hard to explain without diagrams, but those of you with such an island second lawn will understand what I mean. If you’ve just got a single, contiguous, lawn, this won’t be a problem. - The L10 has a rain sensor and won’t go out it its wet. I am slightly tempted to cover this sensor up (the 1200r didn’t care if it was raining). However, I’ve left it for now. - My lawn is pretty bumpy, but level. The L10 doesn’t have any problem with the bumps, but I can’t speak to how it performs on slopes. On the whole, the L10 is performing better than the very old 1200r ever did. It more reliably returns to its base station and provides a really neat finish to the lawn. It also looks like one of the motorbikes from Tron, which is geeky and cool. Recommended, and at the price, a super investment.

Brilliant machine
I was considering buying a robotic lawn mower for a long time before I took the plunge. I read reviews for all makes and prices and they all had some negative issues. I saw this Lawnmaster L10 come up on my Amazon feed so I read the reviews and was pretty impressed. I liked that it was simple in construction without gps or apps or Bluetooth complications to go wrong. Duly ordered it arrived direct from Cleva UK the importers within a couple of days. I had spent so long considering one that I had already planned on burying the guide wire and from other reviews knew how close to obstacles I could lay it. It is well worth planning this beforehand because I managed to set it out quickly and got it right first time. Once the wire was finished and I had power to the base station it was ready to go. The instruction are very clear and it was easy to start the mower going, I was going to mow the grass beforehand but I couldn't be bothered with that so I set the cut to its highest setting 60mm and off it went. It had no trouble doing its job and went back to the base station to recharge and then set off again. The next day Ilowered the cut to 50mm and it is now down to 40mm where I will keep it. It comes default to cut daily but it can be set to cut every other day which suits me fine. On every third outing it starts by going clockwise following the perimeter wire to do an edge cut, otherwise when returning to the base to charge or finish it follows the wire anticlockwise. You can set it to mow for 4,6,8,or 10 hours daily or everyother day. It will start at the same time as you first start it to go which can be any time you like. You can also "force" an edge cut if you wish. It also has a rain sensor that if triggered sends it back to base until next time when the sensor has had time to dry. Things I like: it is very well made and solid, it is extremely quiet, the price at £399 from Amazon is good value. The simplicity of it, the 2 year guarantee and most of all the excellent job it is doing in keeping my grass cut, it really has never looked better. My only regret is I would like to link it to my front garden which I could do but I am afraid it would be stolen.

Very poor customer service and poor quality lawnmower
When the lawnmower arrived, we were initially really pleased with it, it cut well and was nice and quiet but this didn't last long. We've had lots of issues with it and constant error messages and whilst we have done all the trouble shooting issues as listed in the manual and having been in touch with their customer support are now just fed up and want a refund as we're sitting on £500 worth of plastic junk. Seeming to get a response from the support team is proving difficult and asking if we can still 'troubleshoot' is insulting, especially in relation to the rain sensor which was constantly lit and I pointed out that the UK was basking in a heatwave at the time!! We're not idiots, if it was as simple as pressing a few buttons, we would have done it. We even tried looking it up on YouTube (normally great for tips) but lawnmaster is not mentioned. Now, no lights are even on at all and you can't use the dashboard. I just want a refund at this point!!
