Update:I took a good hard look at this DVD trying to figure out if it was real. The more I look at it, I am thinking it is probably a really good fake. So 2 big things: 1) no Disney magic points where given which is advertised on the back sleeve, 2) the DVD region encoding was not limited to one region when I looked at it on a computer which is a tell tale sign. Also, maybe this is just me being paranoid but the plastic case it comes in appears to be on the cheap side. Don't get me wrong the thing plays just like the original, the movie quality is the same. The print quality of the of the sleeve and case cover seems to be very good. The sleeve even has raised lettering and reflective surfaces.These movies had a limited release in 2008 so chances are you are being shipped NOS (New Old Stock) that has been lying around a warehouse especially at a price of $13 is not likely. Now that I read up on these Disney movies being sold way after the release date the more certain that they are fakes just based on circumstances. That being said, the one I got was very like the original, obviously collectors will spot these problems, your kid will probably not. There are many variants of fakes as well floating around some worse then others. I think I paid a $2 premium for a better fake and there was a good chance the seller did not know they where selling fakes especially since the issues I had you would have had to pull the shrink warp off to tell.Of course there are legal, ethical and possibly play back device security issues involved here as well with this type of purchase, buyer beware.Old Review (5 Stars):Arrived as advertised. I was a little concerned after one reviewer mentioned their copy was not legitimate. Mine appears to be legitimate: Shrink warped in a DVD case you would expect, disks do not appear to be made on a home computer, plays in DVD player, new condition. If it helps I bought mine from "Prm Trade" I checked the sellers rating before I bought and they have never had a complaint at the time I purchased this. I will say It did cost me an extra $2 over the cheapest seller which did have pretty bad reviews. It's generally a good idea to do that for anything you buy on Amazon as some sellers are scammers and Amazon tends to default to the cheapest option.

This is one of my favorite Disney movies. I love the Tchaikovsky music heard throughout and the beauty of the animation and artwork. The beautiful Mary Costa sings her heart out as Princess Aurora/Briar Rose. When I was a girl I had paper dolls of these characters and an album of Sleeping Beauty by Pyotr Tchaikovsky to listen to while I played. I even named my first child Aurora. So yes, I definitely love this movie.This version is just as beautiful as I remembered it and it includes extras of a short on the Fantasy Parade and also the background on the input of the designers and animators as well as some of the actors. It also includes some story boards on different ways the story could go as well as some live action sequences the animators used to draw the characters. It comes to about a full 3 hours of movie and extras for this price.If you are a member of Disney Anywhere you will get 150 points to spend towards your next Disney purchase.I am a true fan and think this story holds up today with the evil Maleficent becoming the Dragon and the wonderful fairy godmothers, Fauna, Flora and Meriwether. These characters are pure Disney and will be remembered.

In honor of its 60th anniversary in 2019, here's a long-due review of Disney's 16th animated feature, Sleeping Beauty, which debuted in 1959, almost 4 years after Lady and the Tramp, number 15! It took over 6 years to make and a then-HUGE budget of $6 million or more! During the early stages of the movie, the WB's cartoon division temporarily shut down due to the 3D craze, and its technical craziness of the short Lumber Jackrabbit; that's how Chuck Jones and his animation team moonlit for Disney for 6 months on Sleeping Beauty, before going back to the WB in 1954. Also during production of this movie, virtually all of Disney's package feature shorts were reissued as single shorts by 1957; and that's also when the animated shorts department shut down, ending with hits like Jack and Old Mac, Chips Ahoy, How to Have an Accident in the Home, and In the Bag. Somehow, RKO parted ways with Disney at that time, making Buena Vista the company's new movie and shorts' distributor. The only other known time they were together again was with Mighty Joe Young in 1998. Luckily, tons of classic shorts were reissued from Buena Vista from then until 2007 with Meet the Robinsons, number 47 on the list, if not even further than that! That meant any new animated shorts had to come from the Feature Animation divisions, causing a slowdown of new features, on top of countless TV projects, TV in general becoming huge nationwide, AND rising costs in theatres, AND Walt Disney going into all-live-action filmmaking. Even though it's considered a step backward for toon gurus everywhere, like with what happened to Frank Tashlin, but unlike Tashlin, Disney himself actually put quality storytelling in such work, with occasional animated title sequences! Even with these ideas, Walt Disney refused to stop making animated shorts AND features completely, and thank goodness for that! Fortunately, Sleeping Beauty was AND is revolutionary in itself, on top of being a beloved and awesome story; while it has the UPA-feel to the backgrounds and designs, as many classic toon shorts at the time were done, it marked Disney's first official use of Xerox technology, with Maleficent becoming a dragon! The next feature, 101 Dalmatians, number 17 in 1961, would use Xerox all through it, not only for how the characters were drawn, but especially for all the spots on all 101 Dalmatians! The 3 Good Fairies, Flora, Fauna, and Merriweather, would be a precursor to how Huey, Dewey, and Louie would be colored from the original Ducktales in 1987 to today; Flora and Huey as red, Fauna and Louie as green, and Merriweather and Dewey as blue! There's a good reason for Maleficent being as evil as she sounds and acts; she was played by the same actress as Lady Tremaine, Cinderella's stepmother! Sleeping Beauty was one of just 2 of Disney's animated features filmed in a CinemaScope-like format called Technirama; the only other one was The Black Cauldron in 1985, number 25. This'd also be the first Platinum Edition release to be on Blu-ray in 2008, and the same already-awesome-in-HD print and disclaimer about the movie's aspect ratio, would be reused for the 2014 Diamond Edition. Needless to say, its Signature Edition is bound to be the same way again! Not only was this Disney's 16th animated feature, and still is, most of it took place on Aurora's sweet 16th birthday, alias Briar Rose, and she's the aforementioned Sleeping Beauty AND biggest star of this picture! This was one of Walt Disney's most ambitious projects ever, and thankfully, the incredible success of this and especially 101 Dalmatians, eventually saved Disney from going belly-up! Once you have features 1 to 15 that were done in Walt's lifetime, don't stop now, there's still a few more to come, even The Aristocats, which was the last to have personal approval by him, and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, which was another tribute to him made of the first 3 Pooh featurettes with new footage! The DVD didn't work. I thought I was purchasing an authentic product.

Bought new from third party only for digital code. Code still worked in 12/2017!

The copy I received looked to be real from the packaging standpoint. However, it is very apparent this isn’t an authentic copy. The beginning doesn’t have the typical Disney credits/previews. And once the movie ends, various screen savers play with instrumental music. It played just fine, so I’ll give it 3 stars for that. But product is most definitely not what it is advertised.

The film's production spanned almost the entire decade, beginning with story concept work in 1951 and ending in 1959 with the film's theatrical release. ‘Sleeping Beauty’ was a great strain on the studio's finances, especially from its concept and of course its manpower. It cost so much, in fact over $6 million, that even though it was a box office success upon its release, the animation film still did not recoup its production costs on its initial run. Since then, however, ‘SLEEPING BEAUTY,’ has become a most profitable property for the Walt Disney Company, as its nearly 50-year legacy has touched generations of filmgoers...I'm sure I'm not the first to make the observation that the villains of Disney's animated features are often more interesting than their heroes and heroines. Think of Cruella de Vil in '101 DALMATIONS,' the Wicked Witch of 'SNO WHITE,' or the Beast of 'Beauty and the Beast,' and it's easy to savour all of the cruel wickedness far more than the blandly-vanilla sweetness. There is a heft to the darkness in 'Sleeping Beauty' that further helps to off-set the clichéd and conventional aspects of its romantic confections.‘SLEEPING BEAUTY’ may have a plain story, but its strengths are in its spectacle and its select memorable moments and characters. Maleficent is superbly designed, and brought to smooth, scheming life by the excellent voice work of Eleanor Audley. Even her raven sidekick has a pronounced personality, becoming a creature the viewer just loves to hate. Aurora and Phillip's initial meeting and courtship in a highly stylized forest setting is probably the film's most memorable sequence. Every turn of a head is carefully drawn and choreographed, and every corner of the screen is filled with luxuriant detail. All of it, down to the last leaf, tapestry, or rocky crag, shines through in this totally beautiful stunning in this high definition Blu-ray release. “It is truly a sight to behold."Blu-ray Video Quality – ‘SLEEPING BEAUTY’ has received a wonderful and stunning 1080p encoded offering of a beautiful transfer restoration, with at last framed at 2.55:1, showing more area at the top/bottom and sides of the picture than ever seen before). According to a provided Disney's press materials, 'Sleeping Beauty' has undergone a meticulous frame-by-frame clean-up, culled from the original nitrate negative and requiring years to complete. The result is clearly superior to any video or theatrical, for that matter, presentation seen before. If this is indicative of Disney's future Platinum Series presentations, fans are in for a treat. The source is just about impeccable, with no traces of dirt or blemishes. Blacks are pure, with little of the print fluctuations that usually plague material of this vintage. Contrast is vibrant but retains a film-like look, and there is no faux-digitisation of the image. The originally, already-brilliant Technicolor palette is superior and, in some cases, greatly improved over the previous DVD version. Darker scenes, such as night-time forest scenes and those with Maleficent boast much cleaner and deeper purples, reds and blues. And thanks to the wonders of digital technology, the often disastrous misalignment of three-plate Technicolor is absent here, so the image is always uniform. Detail and sharpness also receive a noticeable boost. The image is three-dimensional, with appreciable depth and excellent clarity even in the most detailed shots. Shadow delineation sees a jump over the inferior DVD release, such as fine textures of Aurora's clothing or minor details in background plates which are now clearly visible rather than vague mush. It's also no surprise that this is a rock-solid encode, with no apparent edge enhancement or motion artefacts.Blu-ray Audio Quality – Going above and beyond the audio usually offered on re-masters of classic titles, Disney offers a stunning awesome 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track for 'Sleeping Beauty.' It's an excellent beautiful remix, with the studio utilizing newly-discovered 35mm 3-track recordings. Certainly, ‘SLEEPING BEAUTY’ has never sounded better. It also offers the Original Stereo Theatrical Mix. ‘SLEEPING BEAUTY’ has been expanded nicely to 7.1. The rear soundstage is nice and full, with the original sound stems utilized to create truly discrete effects that pan smoothly between channels. I did not notice any great exploitation of the two extra surround channels, but certainly the surrounds are full and alive with sound. Minor ambiance is also nicely sustained, particularly during the outdoor and action-y moments. Clarity and depth to dynamic range is full-bodied, with the elements betraying their nearly 50-year age. Low bass is also deep and tight, but not overpowering. The score is also technically impeccable, with a richness I wasn't expecting from the original older title release. All spoken words are very clean and very nicely pronounced. As with this Blu-ray release, Disney has more than earned the Platinum designation with this 7.1 DTS HD Master Audio upgrade.Blu-ray Special Features and Extras:Special Feature: 3 Deleted Scenes (Never Before Seen Deleted Scenes) [1080p] [13:00] Here we have three new, never before seen deleted scenes like:“The Fair” (with deleted character The Vulture) In this version of the story, the fairies do not take the Princess to live with them in the forest. Kudos to Disney for not whitewashing the story and details of wild cost overruns and internal politics are not discarded, which makes for really fascinating viewing.Special Feature: Eyvind Earle: A Man and His Art [1080p] [8:00] Focuses squarely on the life and career of Sleeping Beauty's most talented art director Eyvind Earle who directly painted or at least supervised the production of every single background seen in the film, with incredible amounts of detail crammed into every angle.Audio Commentary: Commentary is with PIXAR guru John Lasseter, film critic and historian Leonard Maltin, and Disney animator Andreas Deja: The trio offers a nice balance of perspective. Deja illustrates the technical aspects and changes in animation styles that 'SLEEPING BEAUTY' ushered in, as well as some behind-the-scenes Disney politics; Maltin gives his typical lavish spin on the film's legacy within the Disney canon, while John Lasseter is the most persuasive in detailing the lasting influence the film has had on the medium. Before the audio commentary starts, you get to actually see Andreas Deja, John Lasseter and Leonard Maltin in the studio with a short introduction before the start of their very nice and interesting audio commentary in conjunction with the film. This 50th Anniversary Diamond Edition is a veritable set that is a definite “once upon a dream” for lovers of all things Disney and especially their magical animation feature films and the treasure trove. Although, this new 2014 Diamond Edition has the same brilliant digital presentation as the 2008 Blu-ray edition, the biggest flaw is the bonus content, which sadly the Disney people have decided to drop some of the special extras from this 2014 Blu-ray release. So if you happen to own the 2008 edition, hold on to that. But if you aren't a fan of supplements or feel this will be a better upgrade, fell free to indulge in this new edition of a delightful Disney animation classic. Watching the film again, I was also struck by its script. Much of the dialogue is extremely poetic, which simply adds to the film’s overall mystique. Most animated films do not have particularly outstanding dialogue, but are just well-plotted. Sleeping Beauty not only has wonderful dialogue, but also improves on the overall plotting of the original piece, by reworking the original story and having Aurora and Phillip meet and fall in love before Aurora is put to sleep my Maleficent’s curse. There is simply so much here to appreciate, from the great script, outstanding voice talent, brilliant animation, the wonderful song “Once Upon a Dream” that always stays with you, and the Tchaikovsky score that is perfectly fitted to the film, despite having been composed decades before the animation film’s conception. ‘SLEEPING BEAUTY’ is truly a masterpiece and one of the best of the Disney classics. Compared to todays Pixar films Sleeping Beauty seems old fashioned with a very basic cartoon drawings. However it brought back memories of watching this film when I was younger. Some wonderful scenes with the fairy godmothers changing colours of Sleeping Beauty's dress. Not many songs in this film but still worth watching again all these years later. I'm not sure it will hold the attention of my grandchildren but I'll try putting it on for them soon and see what they think

One of the best animation films of all time - it is very hard to choose the choosen one. Fresh as new, never tired of it. Sit back and enjoy it in superb hd picture quality. Do not miss it!!!

Bought as a gift for my daughter who loved disney princess films. She enjoyed it... a classic, what's not to enjoy.

The film itself isn't one of my favourite Disney ones, but i am a fan of the Princess stories and i'm building my disney collection up :'). I'd say that considering i brought a platinum edition version and it's a disney classic, the price was okay, although i do think overall it's a little expensive for just one dvd. However the copy itself was new and arrived within the estimated delivery dates.

Early Christmas gift to remember the the Christmas time I was taken to see my first film As a child

Excellent quality, beautiful and exciting storyline. A must have for every Disney movie collection

A classic, loved by me as a child and now loved by my daughter and probably in the future by her children. The 50th Anniversary edition doesnt really have any extra features however it is still well worth owning if perhaps you are upgrading your video collection as the picture and sound quality is great and its nicely boxed. Lovely to own or give as a gift

Purchased this to watch with my granddaughter, brings back memories of when I was young

The DVD came well packaged and arrived promptly.On opening the package- it was just as the advert picture - l am extremely happy with the DVD and the service.lt was purchased as a 5th birthday present for my granddaughter-She loved the film- which is obviously down to personal taste!l would recommend the seller and would definitely purchase from them again.

A fantastic Disney animation a movie that I feel lucky to own thought i'd almost missed it since it has been put back in Disney's Vault if there are any copies left brand new at this price I'd urge any Disney fan to consider purchasing cause I don't know when Disney are releasing this Blu-ray next if at all. Altough most Disney movies are available all the time some Disney movies are only available for a limited amount of time. note this movie is the 2009 Blu-ray 50th anniversary copy and its no longer available in shops.
