Very cool. Unusual.
We have a cabin, no office chair or drafting stool would look good. Went on a hunt and found this quirky chair that’s intended for painters and alike. Was nervous, very few reviews on it and it took forever to get it. The quality is top notch, solid beech. Adjustable height allows me to be as low as a chair or higher than a bar stool. The foot rest is awkward for me, my legs are too long (I’m 6’3”). Can’t get on them. The seat and backrest are hard as heck, it’s wood, wife and I have been making different seat cushions for it which takes care of that. I sit in it 5-10 hours a day coding and playing games at night. I am so happy with how it turned out.

Lacking Quality Control
This stool looked like a neat concept, so I bought one for my wife to match a Mabef Easel that was also ordered. I wanted to overlook the quality issues, but I couldn’t for the price and ended up returning it. The first item was the packaging. It arrived shrink wrapped in a thin piece of plastic with only the box to protect it. As typical now, the box arrived beat up, broken, and taped back together. Surprisingly there was only one mark on the stool from all of that damage. The other items which couldn’t be overlooked were the wood preparation and lack of quality assembly. Some parts of the stool were as rough as sandpaper. The seat had four screws with only one screw sunk flush with the seat. Of the other three protruding screws, one of them was gold instead of silver like the rest of the stool hardware. One of the footrest pegs was loose and couldn’t be retightened without disassembling the rest of the footrest support. The stool was already not very sturdy in general and would only loosen more over time. The quality is sorely lacking after paying such a premium for a stool that would look more at home in a Tractor Supply or IKEA aisle. It’s a great novelty if money is no concern, but I returned it for a much more functional and infinitely adjustable hydraulic stool. The easel was also returned due to shipping damage and missing parts. I bought into the Mabef marketing hype. Sadly, Mabef didn’t deliver.

Nicely designed and well made.
The chair is well made and most importantly comfortable. It’s height is well suited for sitting at my easel. While I am currently using a Julienne French easel I’d like to get a mabef studio easel for future painting.
