... this up to my Directv receiver and it worked great..
Hooked this up to my Directv receiver and it worked great... for 9 weeks. Then it gave out and won't even power up anymore. It's DEAD. Fantom will not replace or warranty this drive. So unless you want a $150 brick in a few months with no customer support or recourse, don't buy this!! Wish I could go back in time and found a different way to get my Directv Hard drive replaced. What a waste this was.

Strange Little Device
Bought from AWD, drive cycles on spin-up in the box, as if it where asking for more juice than the supply given. Took drive out, it's a Hitachi HGST HUA722010CLA330, not a bad drive. Drive spins up fine in a regular desktop computer, so I thought, well the box is bad. Placed another used drive in box, works just fine... so I'm at a loss. Can certainly see why it was returned. Drive has 0 power-on hours on it and was made 03/2018, guess I'll have to find another home for it. --> awGuru.comEDIT: After further testing, it's the POWER SUPPLY that is a piece of junk, it's rated at 2 amps/12v but it can't power a .46 amp drive. Used my old WD power supply which is only rated at 1.5 amps/12v and everything running as should be. Seems all the reviews stating these things come with crap power supplies are correct. For anyone interested in the actual specs:4/24/2019 8:50:25 AMModel Number: Hitachi HUA722010CLA330Serial Number: JPW9K0N132XDLLFirmware Revision: JP4OA3EASMART - Started 4/24/2019 8:50:25 AMSMART - Pass 4/24/2019 8:50:30 AMIdentify - Started 4/24/2019 8:50:51 AMModel Number: Hitachi HUA722010CLA330Serial Number: JPW9K0N132XDLLFirmware Revision: JP4OA3EADrive Capacity: 1.00 TB / 931.51 GiBMax LBA: 1953525167Cache Size: 29 MBLifetime Bytes Read: 191.75 MBLifetime Bytes Written: 25.64 MBPower-On Hours: 0Annualized Workload Rate [ (Writes + Reads) * (8760 / POH) ]: 0 TB/yrDrive Temperature (C/F): 26 / 79WWN: 5000CCA39CEB99E3Sector size (Logical/Physical/Allignment): 512 / 512 / 0Signal Speed (Max/Negotiated): 3.0 / ---- Gb/sTransport Supported: SATA 2.6Rotation rate: 7200 RPMForm factor: 3.5 inchSpecification Supported: ATA8-ACSEncryption Support: Not SupportedSecurity Mode: Supported, FrozenSMART: EnabledHost Protected Area features: EnabledAdvanced Power Management: SupportedDownload Microcode: Segmented

A great deal for a good DVR Expander
This 4 TB External hard drive is being used as my DVR expander for my DirecTV Genie. So here is a little back story:I have Verizon Fios and DirecTV Genie service in my home. (Yes I have both for sports etc). I have used the Western digital 1TB expandable DVR expanders for a few years on both Directv and my Fios service. The Western Digitals work great but... 1TB is simply not enough for when I go on vacations or record a lot of shows within a week. I have been looking for a perfect solution to my storage needs. I HAVE found what I've been looking for in the Fantom 4TB drive. (Disclaimer, this drive only works with my Directv Genie, My Fios box wouldn't recognize it).Pros:-The drive really does expand my DirecTV Genie to 4TB. I have literally over 80 hours of HD content and only 4% is full so far. That's 96% free. Since I know the capacity limits of the 1TB I can say the Directv Genie uses the full 4TB of space.-Easy to install and use (Just unplug the receiver, plug in this drive then boot up receiver).-Does not slow down the receiver or your browsing of channels and shows.-If the power ever goes out, once rebooted it goes back right where it left off, recording all of my shows.Cons-The Blinking Blue light is very frustrating and annoying. Use some black electric tape to cover this light.-Compared to the Western Digital 1TB DVR expanders, this drive definitely makes some noise. Nothing too loud or unbearable but, you definitely hear the drive grinding. If you store it further away or under a shelf you should be fine.-Build quality of the casing isn't the best. Feels a bit cheap but looks aren't everything I guess.-Does NOT come with a eSata cable. Luckily I had an extra one from my Western Digital drive but if you don't have one, buy one.-Does NOT work with Fios, Only Directv as I have tested.Overall I am very happy with my purchase of this drive. I know I can be away for weeks at a time and all of my shows will be recording without running out of space. It isn't perfect but for the price and the high capacity (4TB) it's a great deal!Buy it!

Works for Directv Genie
I bought this to use with my Direct TV (directv) Genie. The web site says it won't support more than 2TB I think but this 4GB one works fine. The blue light on the front is a little bright so I might put some tape over it, but other than that it's fine.FYI, this comes with a USB cable but not eSATA. If you want to hook up to eSATA you should buy one of those as well. Amazon has them as add ons for not that much.

Drive failed on first use
If drives fail, they usually fail out of the box...did so in this situation.Connection coming and going.Surprised manufacturer had no software tools available to test it...so after working on it for a couple days, time to go back.I will find a more reliable manufacturer. Now the intermittent disconnect with the computer could be the cable too...but my experience usually shows the cable needs to be touched or moved a bit for it to disconnect.the fact is this drive would just disappear and reappear...sometimes an hour later, sometimes twice in 3 minutes.I have many externals and even one with cable issues never did this.it even hangs my boot up sometimes....def issue with drive...return

Not so fantom.
It seems to work well and has lots of storage. It looks good.Depending on what your using it for there is a bright blue light on the front that flickers when data in transferring. We used it as an external hard drive for a Pvr, so had to put some electrical tape over the light. It is quite noisy and has a vibration that is amplified by a desk or tv stand. Had to put a rubber pad underneath it. Seems odd for something labelled a “fantom drive”, because you can definitely hear it and see it.

Versatile
we have used a 1 TB version of this drive for several years with our Rogers PVR 8300 box. We now bought this 2TB version for our main Rogers PVR and so far it is working flawlessly. Both drives are a bit noisy when recording but since we usually watch programs when in the TV room it is not intrusive. If you are placing the drive in a bedroom you might want to be sure that you turn it so the flashing blue light does not bother you at night - or place something in front of it. However, all in all we are very satisfied with this product.

I recommend to expand Satellite receiver storage
I received the Fantom Drive within 2 days. I attached it to the esata connection on my Shaw Satellite receiver, and it worked perfectly. It increased the storage of my satellite receiver by 400 percent and has been left running 24 hours a day ever since, without a glitch (about a month). With the French Open tennis matches on right now, I can record the 9 hour broadcasts in High Def for later viewing. I highly recommend this Fantom drive for this (sat receiver expansion) application; it's very quiet in operation. Note to those who want to use it on the Shaw 630 like mine- the 2 TByte is the maximum that you can add- it says 4TB in the 630 manual, but the install prompt from the 630 says 2TB.

Lots of space!
Great machine. Works as advertised. Works with NWTel Arris DCX3635-W PVR to expand capacity. As the other commenter mentioned, enabled me to record ALL the Australian Open tennis and watch at my leisure with room left over. The only disappointment was the cable it came with was USB 3 connection. I needed eSATA connector (which I assumed was included), so I had to order separately and wait for it to arrive before I could set up the unit. Loud ticking noise and bright blue flashing light when functioning but not really a problem.

Working great as a Shaw Direct DVR/PVR extended hard drive
I have an older Shaw Direct PVR and it was filling up. I was looking for a portable hard-drive which I could use for this application but it has to be 2TB or less and it had to be powered separately. This worked immediately on plugging it in and gave us about 80% more room to store movies. I would recommend this product.

so far so good
My storage on my PVR dropped from 78% to 9%. My main irritant is that you need to put a piece of tape over the "on" light which is way too bright, could be a bit quieter also. Took about 2 easy minutes to hook it together and get it working . Turn on Fantom, attached the esata cable to it and to the pvr. PVR sees the hard drive and you click on YES , a few seconds later it was all working. Now hope it last for a good while .

Not a 2tb but a 3tb drive
IM not sure how many stars to give seeing as I ordered this because it was a 2tb drive and I needed it for my PVR.I am with Bell Satellite and there PVR`s do not except any Had drive that is bigger then a 2tb however even though this is a 2tb on paper and on here it's really a 3tb with 2.72tb available...to some, this would be a bonus abut atm to me it's not

beware no ESATA cable included.
Looks good and works well. I purchased this drive because it was esata. When I open the box , it only included a USB cable. What a disapoitment, Now I have to order a cable, pay for shipping because it is under $35 and wait 4 days or more before I can use the drive. SO not to happy.

Good drive at great price.
Works great for PVR in case you don't want to buy drives with inflated prices through your cable company. Only drawback if any is the bright blue light on the drive which will illuminate your room if you enjoy watching movies with the lights off. A piece of electrician's tape will fix that. The external power switch is also a nice feature if you don't like your drive being on all the time which can shorten it's life especially with a PVR.

Definitely met my expectations !
Works very well with my Shaw Direct PVR satelite receiver. It is quiet and you do not realize it is actually running if it was not for it's flashing blue light. I just turned the unit around and you cannot see it flashing. It has greatly increased the capacity of my PVR

Works great!
Worked well in my Shaw PVR as additional storage. The first time we attached it, we had issues with it and the recordings we tried flickered. But after we reset the PVR, reattached and then turned on, all went fine. Probably the eSata cable wasn't properly attached on the first try. But the 2nd time worked like a charm. Additional 2TB for my PVR!

Only worked 2 months on my Shaw pvr, at ...
Only worked 2 months on my Shaw pvr, at 60% the system crash and reboot all time when record started. Après seulement 2 mois pour mon enregistreur Shaw les problèmes ont commencé. À 60 %, le système ne fait que crasher dès que j’efface ou que l’un enregistrement commence. Le système Shaw se reboot. Vraiment déçu.

Using as a PVR drive with my Bell express Vu. Works as expected. Had it in my bedroom and was a little noisy at night but not loud enough to notice when watching TV.
