Great place to start with vinyl
If you are looking for a do anything good quality turntable this new version is a great choice not in the league of Rega, Pro-ject and the likes but does a good job for little money and is easy to upgrade. I own both the AT 120 old version and the new AT120 version and basically the new version eliminates the problems with the old version but does loose some of the quality build found in the old version. The new version is lighter does not have the arm height adjustment and comes with a better AT cartridge fitted has phono jack's and a earth connection, the power supply is via a plug in adapter and the mains hum which the first version had has gone. I Recommend changing the cartridge for a better rounded sound I went for the Goldring E2 but any of the E series is a good choice there are many others available but go up in price as the supplied cartridge is bottom of the AT range. The photos show the two versions and the difference in tone arms. As to the first version it is still a great turntable but the niggles have been ironed out. Happy listening.

I’ve been using the Audio-Technica LP120XUSB for a few weeks now, and I’m thoroughly impressed. The build quality is excellent — it feels solid, well-engineered, and much more premium than most turntables in its price range. The tonearm, buttons, and platter have a satisfying heft that gives real confidence in its durability. The sound quality is equally outstanding. When paired with a good amplifier and speakers, it delivers a clean, warm, and detailed sound that truly brings vinyl records to life. The separation of instruments, clarity in vocals, and smooth bass response are all remarkable. You can really feel the analog warmth that vinyl lovers crave. I also appreciate the USB output, which makes it easy to digitize my records without compromising quality — a thoughtful addition that bridges vintage charm with modern convenience. The direct drive motor ensures consistent speed and quick start-up, while the adjustable tonearm and detachable headshell make fine-tuning and cartridge upgrades simple. Overall, the LP120XUSB is an exceptional value for both beginners and audiophiles. It looks professional, performs beautifully, and feels built to last. If you want a reliable, great-sounding turntable that respects the vinyl tradition while embracing digital flexibility, this one’s a winner!

Unboxing: This came in a much larger box compared to the original, although that was expected considering I asked for Amazon outer packaging. There was no 'Fragile' label on the box, so it is possible that it was mishandled (although nothing bad seems to have happened). Setup: The setup was extremely easy, with an included quick start guide. Essentially it comes somewhat disassembled, with the cover and plate packaged separately in the box. I did do a double take when I thought certain accessories were missing, and I had to flip through the styrofoam packaging to find them. There was a bit of a hassle trying to connect the power and AUX, and then flipping the entire player, but it was manageable with only one person (I am using a tall IKEA cube shelf unit placed a few centimeters from the wall). The only issue that I have is with the clearance needed to fully lift the plastic cover. I did not account for this when moving my shelf, and as a result it will hit the wall before fully lifting (keep this in mind with your own setup). When you get everything put together, they give you a recommended pressure and antiskate setting, which were very easy to adjust. General use and comments: I chose this because it looked really nice, and the black base colour matched the surrounding furniture. The weight of it helps keep it in place, and prevents it from shifting around when you touch it. The sound quality is pretty decent, with only a few cases where static was audible. This could depend on many factors, so I wouldn't assume its a normal thing. I have it paired with Edifier speakers (as shown somewhat in the photo), and they do a great job with playing the audio. Although this does come with the tempo slider, I find minimal use for it, although it is something nice to have. I think this is a very solid first choice for those getting into record collecting and playing. P.S. this model does NOT come with bluetooth connectivity, but it does include a USB to connect with your computers, and an 'adaptor' which lets you play smaller records (I'm not sure what the exact name for it is).
