Rare as SAE Nuts Come!
#12 Machine screws are very rare because they are so close in size between #10 and 1/4" - only .09 inches smaller than 1/4". The only place I found them is on old Ford cigarette lighters (go figure). These are the nuts for those rare screws, and there isn't any issue with them at all.
