He doesn’t have high standing, considering the fact that he has small funds, one town house, and supports himself at the gaming tables. George Easton is a bastard, and as such is only considered good for a few things…and that isn’t a place in high society. George Easton is a character I didn’t understand that much. I really liked him, and at first he seems very practical and determined, but he goes along with Honor’s illogical ploys, and it just didn’t fit with him…but I figure men act silly when a beautiful woman is involved and tend not to act like their logical selves. But what I did like about George was his drive to succeed, even when he makes reckless actions, his character is written in such a way that you just can’t help but like him.The HeroineHonor is in a bad situation, and even though she is the least practical person, she is determined to do what it takes to protect her family from a woman that would kick them to Europe or the America’s…just to get them out-of-the-way. You see honor’s love and drive to protect those she loves…even in the most ridiculous ways that she goes about it. But even though she could seem very immature at times, and silly, I felt respect for her character. In the story we are put in her mind more, and we what drives her, and she does have good intentions, and despite everything I loved that about her. The way she loves her family and would do anything for them except get married. We see how she likes to do things the hard way…but a very entertaining way though.Plot and Story LineTrouble With Honor is the first book…and what a fun romance this was. I had read mixed reviews and ratings about this one, but I like Julia London, and it was a cheap audio book, so I thought it would be good to give it a chance…and I did. At first I will admit the story seemed to drag a bit, but one aspect I have noticed about Julia London’s book you have to give them some time before you get into it and boy am I glad that I stuck with this one, because I adored this story and the narrator is just fabumous…I have listened to other books she has narrated and she is very talented is accents and in portraying the characterizations. There is one thing I just loved about this book…was how George and Honor clicked together. They fit perfectly especially in moments that they don’t realize it. One of my favorite aspects of this story was the way the romance develops because it was different. This pair first meets at the gaming tables, and there is some fiery sparks, but somehow those sparks don’t die despite their difference in positions. What was great about this pair, was how they work hand in hand in such a harmonious way, and especially the first half of the story they don’t see how well they do together. I love that it creeps up on them, and before they realize it…they fall hard for each other. What really got to me was the last part of the story (don’t worry I won’t reveal anything) but it got me emotionally involved, and I so wanted these two to find a way to be together…because they deserved it and they need each other. And they do fight for each other, and even if you have reservations about the heroine…by the end of the book your view changes drastically…it did for me anyway, I love how she fights for love and for what she really wants, and not bow to society’s dictates. This is a romance that slowly won my heart over, in a very dramatic way of course…but nonetheless it happened and I am so thrilled to have discovered this book and I can’t wait to listen to Grace’s story, especially when we get a little tease about her at the end.The CoverThere are two covers for this book, the newer one matches the series so I put that one up, because I like the couple poses…and I love this one. I love her dress, it’s so pretty and elegant, and I love the pose here, with is hand on her neck—*shivers down the spine* how I love that.Overall ViewThe Trouble With Honor is a story that will surprise, shock and delight you from beginning to end. First things first! There should be a disclaimer on this book: This Ain’t Your Granny’s Historical!Anyone who knows me, knows that I’ve got a go-to soft spot for Julia London’s books. She’s written over 30 now and I’m pretty sure I’ve read every single one, so to say I know what to expect from her, wouldn’t be an exaggeration.Well, I truly didn’t see this one coming!Honor Cabot is a heroine who knows what she wants and doesn’t let anything stop her from getting it. I’ve read a couple reviews where people think she’s spoiled, but I believe she’s anything but. These reviews are clearly written by people who haven’t grown up reading Regencies for decades like I have and show a true lack of understanding of the mores of the era. Honor is ahead of her time and realizes she must work within the parameters that society has placed on her to change the outcome of her life.George Easton is the bastard son of nobility in a time when anyone considered less than “quality” of the “ton” were shunned unless well and truly connected (such is George). He fights to prove to society that his standing is just as equal as those born on the right side of the sheets. Although he desires to be accepted by his peers, George is no school boy and makes bold decisions and takes large risks with his finances.When the story opens we’re immediately thrust back in time and are reading an updated version of Austen. We watch as a jaded bastard, Easton, is well and truly snared. He’s so sure of himself and I dare any romance reader not to smile with smug satisfaction and cheer for Honor and laugh at George’s arrogance by the end of the first chapter.I loathe spoilers so you won’t find any here other than the fact that Honor is ahead of her time and knows what she wants in more ways than one.As George says: Such a bold girl. Unapologetic. Brave. A woman who sought her pleasure as she sought her place in the world.Julia London doesn’t skimp on the spice. Once Honor’s passion is aroused by George, let’s just say a potted palm or dark balcony are all that are required for George to prove a point or an eager Honor to explore her budding passion. When the deed is finally done, I cheered out loud! After watching George take the upper hand during many of their passionate encounters, it was refreshing to see Honor take the lead during their consummation.George is definitely an Alpha hero but Honor is a Heroine for today. If you’re looking for Richard Gere to sweep in and carry Debra Winger off from her factory job, go rent a video. If you are looking for a woman with a backbone who won’t take “no” for an answer, then this is the book for you. I give The Trouble with Honor by Julia London 5 out of 5 stars!

From the description, I was expecting a certain type of book so I was pleasantly surprised when it didn't follow the expected pattern. The stepbrother was actually very loving, the conniving fiancee wasn’t pure evil and the predicament the Cabot family found themselves was quite understandable and believable. I honestly don’t mind a predictable plot but it was nice to see something I wasn’t expecting.Honor isn’t your usual sort of heroine - actually, she’s a little bit of a pain in the bum - but for some reason I couldn’t help but like her. I felt that she hid her true feelings and character behind her charming smile and flippant, rule-breaking demeanour. And I suppose that’s where my initial problem with this book started. I felt I didn’t ever get to uncover those true feelings or her true character. It was the same across the novel and the characters - we are teased that there is depth to these people, these feelings, these interactions - but we never get to actually witness or feel them. I was desperate for more. To make me believe what’s going on. But it didn’t happen.I liked George, too. He was another slightly unusual character who I, surprisingly, found myself feeling heartily sorry for at times due to how members of the ton were treating him or talking about him behind his back.The other Cabot sisters had minor roles in the book, although Grace had the biggest, and I’m assuming we’ll get to find out more about them in the other Cabot Sister novels. I’m beginning to wonder if Monica will also get her own book in the future as there were chapters devoted to her in this book which seemed slightly, well, pointless, as part of Honor and George’s story.I did like Honor and George’s interactions and their banter made me smile. However, due to the lack of depth of feeling, I felt the sex in the book was a little superficial and I admit to skimming over it after the first couple of encounters.A number of Americanisms were smattered throughout the book but, worse than that, were bits of appalling grammar that I am shocked come from any published author.This was a pleasant diversion for an afternoon but I can’t say that I would ever pick it up again to read so can’t honestly recommend it other than to those with it already on their ‘to be read’ pile. It’s such a shame because there was so much promise in the book but ultimately, it just wasn’t for me.

Haven't read any of Julia London before, so this was a nice surprise. The plot was a little different and so was the leading lady's way of getting her own way. Thoroughly enjoyed the book and am looking for more Julia London titles.

This is a good author and I try to read all of her books. Interesting new series.

I think this is my first book by his author, although I recognize her name among the big ones in Romance writing. I don't regret the purchase. The characters are refreshing and believable enough for fictional characters. When they are at one step of the usual cliché they surprise us with an unexpected turn. The hero and heroine are beautiful, smart, and good hearted deep down, but full of flaws that make them more endearing. There relationship is a roller-coaster, actually the book is a roller-coaster. Even the villains have originality. I couldn't put it down and I had to pre-order " the fall of lady Grace" the second in the series.
