Great idea, but bottom of bulb must be exposed to work correctly
After a recent spate of attempted break-ins in my area, I started leaving my porch lights on. This quickly became a pain because I had to remember to turn them off in the morning and on in the evening. I wanted a motion sensitive solution, but didn't want to change my existing fixtures. While researching options, I came across these bulbs, which seemed like a great solution for my rear light. I simply replaced the existing bulb with one of these and left the porch light switch on. The passive infrared sensor in the light bulb with cause it to illuminate when a warm, moving body, (human or animal), enters its field of view. An additional light sensor in the bulb detects if the light is needed so that it won't turn on if it's light out. It works well, but be aware of two things. First, the bottom of the bulb must be exposed for it to work at all. It will NOT work in an enclosed light fixture. This is just how the technology functions. Second, the horizontal distance from the bulb that can be sensed depends upon how high the bulb is. The higher it is, the wider the area that will trigger the light. At about seven feet high, my experience is that it detects about a six-foot radius. It works exactly as advertised, and I may buy more in the future. BTW, I placed the second bulb of the two-bulb pack into my pantry, as I am constantly forgetting to turn the light off after I've been inside. Now, I just leave the light switch on, and the light comes on when I walk in, and turns itself off when I exit.

Very good, but make sure the sensor will be able to "see"
I replaced the light fixtures on the back of my house ... 3 on the deck and 3 on the patio below. I initially installed 60W equivalent LED bulbs, but I felt they were too bright to run dusk to dawn, so I switched to 40W equivalent and they were better but still a little brighter than I wanted, so I replaced two of the three bulbs in the deck fixtures with these. That way there is some light out there all the time, but not too much to bother the neighbors, and these two bulbs will come on automatically when someone is on the deck. As others have noted ... and this becomes intuitive once one thinks about it ... if the sensor is blocked by the fixture, the sensor will not "see" the motion and the light will not come on. The fixture near my grill is fine and the light comes on when I come out the door. I have to get close to the fixture on the far end of the deck before it comes on, but interestingly, it senses if someone passes below on the patio and/or approaches the base of the stairs, which is really what I needed anyway. All in all, I'm very happy with these.

work almost too good
these work great, almost too sensitive, I have one that I really dont need to come on as often as it does, but if you go anywhere in that area it comes on. Luckily my small dog of 15 pounds doesnt seem to be in its range. The hardest part for me now is to retrain my brain, to NOT turn the light off at the switch, lol

Faulty out of the box
Had two of these installed. Both failed after the 3-year warranty period. Ordered replacements and when I went to put the second one in, it was very dim. It turned on/off at dusk/dawn but basically useless as a lightUpdate - the vendor reached out to me and refunded the cost of the replacement bulbs. Great customer service.

Love it! They actually do the work, and now I can walk to the other corner in my basement with light! Buying two more.

Limited sensor range. Shuts off too soon.
The bulb screws in easily and emits a white light. It works as intended, but the range isn't that far. You have to be within about 3'-4' of the light bulb before the sensor detects you and the light comes on. So, the bulb, if mounted on an outside wall, does not detect small animals. That's the main reason I bought this. Plus, the light shuts off too soon. I'm now questioning whether or not to put the regular bulb back in the socket.
