12" SS Dial Thermometer Homebrewing Brew Kettle Brew Pot

A very essential tool for getting a good reading on the wort for my home brewing. I like the length of the measuring rod and the clip that allows me to leave it on the pot, giving me a hands free reading access. I'd been using a regular cooking thermometer but this one is much more precise. Money well spent.

I have had this for about a year. The readings are still within +/- 2 degrees. This is close enough for government work (and beer brewing work). I have found that even when it steams up from being placed in the boil, it continues to work and have not found any rust or corrosion yet. the needle is good and long, the one i got was closer to 15" than 12" but hey, that's ok with me!

if you need to store this you will want another box.

I got this for a compost thermometer. I bought two to check two piles at once for activity. I measured air temp, cold water, hot water and outdoor water temps. They are all within a degree or two (F). So many other thermometers are well over double the price. I don't get it. Maybe the others come with a roll of toilet paper. Ha ha. These work just fine. Get 'em.

Excellent thermometer- it seems to be precise and accurate. It clipped easily on the edge of my brew pot and angles the tip towards the middle. I did get some slight fogging inside the dial when I foil over the top of the pot and the thermometer, but it dried itself out quickly and was never unreadable. This was far easier to use than the meat thermometers I had previously used and gave more stable readings. I got much better extraction during my mash on this batch than previous ones, and I attribute that to being able to accurately hit the necessary temperatures.

I am really glad I purchased this product. I am a massage therapist and have been using this to monitor the temperature in my hot stone water heater. The heater has a digital thermometer built in, but I find it does not accurately reflect the temperature. This little gadget has a long enough stem to place in the water and still rest the meter safely up on the side of the heater. It lets me monitor my exact water temperature so I can safely use hot stones on my clients.

Thought about buying a brew kettle with a thermometer built it but then decided that having something permanently protruding into the kettle, getting in the way of stiring was not necessarily a good thing so I bought this instead. Let's face it, you only need it to monitor the mash water. You don't need it to check the boil but it does come in handy when cooling the wort. Just clip it to your brew kettle and you're good to go. I checked it against an instant read digital thermometer and it was right on, at least when reading whole degrees.
