SO far, so good
Clearly, this is expensive for what it is but gets the job done very well and will save both effort and time. I have only had it for about a month and will update if anything changes. But it appears solidly constructed and so far has taken a beating. For this complaining that the paint comes off........Well yeah. Not sure why you would expect otherwise given the type of tool it is.

So Heavy Duty it's Funny!!!
My friend came over and saw this monster and was looking at it trying to figure out what this thing is used for!!! Anyway, my wifey went out pounding into our rocky soil with a claw hammer like thru butter. Just soak the area with water the night before to soften the soil. Wasn't too hard to get 10-12 inches. Then just push or lightly tap the fertilizer spikes down, cover with dirt and water. No broken fertilizer spikes, they go in easy. Great tool!!!

Great for getting the fertilizer closer to the roots.
Great spike for laying down tree fertilizer spikes. Allows you to get deeper in the grow for the fertilizer to penetrate closer to the roots.

It goes faster for sure
It works as advertised. My only issue is after hammering it in I need to hit it several times on the side in different directions to loosen it enough to pull it out. That said I have hammered in 80 fertilizer stakes the other way and much prefer this. It does go faster and so far no broken stakes.

Handy to use for Jobe tree spikes
Very sturdy to drive in the ground Makes it easy as I make holes when fertilizing my trees witg Jobe tree spikes.

Broke with little use
On arrival, I thought this was great design, well executed. I use it to make holes to put in fertilizer spikes to feed my trees. I put nearly 150 spikes in twice a year. Unfortunately, it broke about 100 or so holes in. I went back to my home made solid, cold roll bar with a point grounded on one end. Although heavy, it works and is dependable.

Indestructible
1- Pricey? Yes - but worth it. You can’t damage or hurt it…….ever……..really. 2- It’s painted yellow - and yes - you WILL scratch and damage the paint….but so what ……I was whacking mine with a 2 1/2 lb. Steel Mallot. (So I wasn’t expecting the paint would stay intact.). If you want it to look pristine and new - buy a can or canary yellow spray paint and paint after you use it! 3- Great design - pound it into the ground up to the collar. 4- Use your mallot to hit it hard on all four sides to loosen it in the ground. Keep doing this until you can pull the stake up by hand. 5- Drop the fertilizer stake into the hole and give it a tap with your mallot to drive in under the soil surface. Don’t hit the fertilizer spike too hard - it works best by not breaking into little pieces. (Slow releases over time). Finally: Why it’s worth the price? Because it really does cut down the time & effort spent trying to make a deep and wide enough hole to place the fertilizer spike below ground level without breaking it up into pieces trying to pound it into the ground! (I did 30 fertilizer spikes in about 20 minutes)

A Must To Own & Use If You Gave Trees & Shrubs
I used this tool in place of Tree Food Spikes. It quickly make holes, with much less effort, to pour granular fertilizer around our trees and shrubs around the home and orchard. Easy to use with a short sledge hammer. You can select different granular fertilizer mixes based on what your landscaping needs are. Saves a great deal of money and time !!! ;)
