Just to be clear, I am reviewing the sofia+sam Mini Lap Desk ONLY. I have noticed that product descriptions on Amazon reviews don't always seem to match the exact product I am viewing so I am now starting to include the product name in my reviews, so there is little to no question as to what I received vs what product the reader wants to see a review for.This is a really great laptop desk! Firstly, the surface of it does appear to be slick as noted by other reviewers. However, my macbook pro has little black rubber bumps (can't quite qualify them as "feet") on the bottom and they keep it in place. If I tilt the lap desk sharply (30 degree angle) it will start to slide - however, I will point out that this is not an angle that I would typically tilt anything that my laptop is sitting on. It certainly does not slide around while I am using it.I do like that the surface is hard enough that I can use it for writing (which okay, I rarely do if a pen or pencil is involved) or drawing. It can also be used with a book but in this case the somewhat slippery surface may be a little bit of an issue.I do use it for my iPhone 6 plus. I have some problems with my hand, and holding my phone for a long time as when I read on my Kindle app can be painful. So this is a use I do really like. No, it does not have a slot to stand up an iPad or iPhone - get another desk if this what you need. Although - tip to the product manufacturer - they could easily add a slot for a tablet or phone and make this desk even more useful!My iPhone does not slide on the desk because it is in a leather folder type case, and when one opens the folder and folds the cover part back behind the phone in order to use the phone, the suede backing on the folder front is exposed, and this holds the phone in place on the lap desk beautifully.The memory foam under the desk surface is semi-firm. I actually like it better than my old lap desk which had the plastic microbeads in what basically constituted a sack under the rigid top of the desk. The old lap desk was okay, but I like the more steady way the memory foam sits on my lap. It does conform slightly to my legs but not very much. Just enough to be comfortable, but not enough to lose any support of the desk.Yes the other reviewers are correct about there being some sparkle to the finish of the lapdesk rigid top section (which by the way is a little over a half an inch thick). I am NOT a sparkle fan, but let me say that this is minimal (my grandma would have said "tasteful") and almost gives it more of a "granite" look than a childish sparkle. So if Hello Kitty on Steroids is what you are going for, then this clearly won't do, LOL! However, if like myself, you prefer to leave sparkle to jewelry and evening clothes, you'll likely be okay with this amount of sparkle.As the photos show, the desk thickness overall is lower at the front and slightly higher at the back. No I'm not going to measure it for you -- I am sitting comfortably in bed right now with the covers over me and the lapdesk on my lap and I don't feel like getting up to get my ruler! But eyeballing it, I'd say the front (curved portion of the desktop which faces the user) is about 1 and ¼ to 1 and ½ inch high, and the rear edge is about 2 inches, including both the thickness of the memory foam and the ½ inch thickness of the rigid top. What this means, ultimately, is that the memory foam is thicker (or higher, if you prefer) from front to back. The thickness of the rigid top is the same throughout the piece.So yes, I am using my lovely new lapdesk to hold my laptop while I write this review! As mentioned above, I have a MacBook Pro, and this "mini" lap desk is more than large enough for the 11.5 laptop. There are almost two inches of lap desk showing on either side of my computer and more like three inches behind it. So I could indeed use a larger laptop on this mini desk - probably up to 15 inches.All in all I am very happy with my purchase and not sad to see my old lap desk take a hike.

My desk is not at the right height for computing. I had my father build it for me an inch lower than standard, but it’s not enough to work for me. It does seems to be enough to keep me from getting a keyboard tray, which all seem to require more clearance than I’ve got.I tried a foot rest and elevating my very adjustable office chair, but that didn’t work. It wasn’t comfortable when using the computer, and it didn’t allow me to do other tasks at my desk that don't require using the computer, like reaching to the bottom of a file drawer.My last option was a lap desk to hold just my short Apple metal keyboard and my Evoluent Vertical Mouse. I’ve used an old navy denim beanbag one with the white chipboard top which is now chipped and discolored. It’s light weight and the bean bag shifts constantly, necessitating eternal vigilance in being aware of when my keyboard and / or mouse were going to go flying.  I almost always caught the keyboard, but the mouse was prone to sliding off the lap desk and dangling off the edge of my desk.  I bought a lap desk from amazon about a year and a half ago, and I LOVED it - but couldn’t keep it. It had a little well on the side of it right where the mouse needed to go which prevented the mouse from working, so I reluctantly returned it. I wrote a positive review on it because it was a nice, quality product that I wish had worked for me.I tried another one which was really bad and I wrote a not-so-nnice review of it. It wasn’t cost effective to return it, so I donated it to Goodwill.And then I gave up looking. But recently, I was so frustrated I looked again, and saw this product. It looked like it would work, and it does.It is what I was looking for. Here’s what I like about this.1. Size. It’s small. I don’t need the large lap desks I was finding. They are too big for my lap and cumbersome to use. I even tried to find lap desks for kids, but they had all kinds of cutouts that would not work for a keyboard. This is just the right size for my keyboard and mouse, and it’s a much better size for my lap.2 Surface. It’s FLAT - no cutouts, no bumps, no wrist rests. Just a flat surface, which is just what I need. I bought the black sparkle top. I’m usually not big on sparkle, but this is pretty low-key and I like it. Yes, things will slide on it, but I solved that with my previous lap desk by buying black 2 Fellowes mouse pads and putting them on top of the desk, then adding the keyboard and mouse on top of them. This prevents the keyboard from sliding and gives me the surface I need for the mouse - which does still sometimes slide off, but it slides TOWARDS me now instead of away so it’s easier to retrieve. :-)3. Looks. The black sparkle top coordinates perfectly with my silver and black iMac, my silver and black mouse, and my silver metal Apple keyboard.4. Stability. The memory foam is SO much more stable than the bean bag one. It is deeper towards your knee and shallower towards your body to encourage what’s on top to stay put and not slide off your knees. It’s also comfortable. Some other reviewers noted than it was heavy and a little warm. Yes, it is a bit heavier but I’m not having a problem with it. Yes, it’s a little warmer than a bean bag one, but it’s winter now so that’s welcome; and in the summer, if there is a problem, I’ll deal with it for the many benefits this lap desk gives me.5. Typing position. I type quickly but made TONS of typos using my old bean bag lap desk. Because of the tilt on this one, my wrists are in a different position, and I seem to be typing more comfortably and accurately on it.Bottom line: This is just what I was looking for. It has the size and functionality I needed, and it’s comfortable and attractive. This is the third lap desk I’ve bought from amazon, and I guess the third time really is the charm! The media could not be loaded.  I'll start with my specific purpose for buying this - heat! I use a Dell XPS 13 which does have a fan and it does get warm. I had repurposed a world atlas as a laptop desk. It was about 1" thick and too much heat was still getting through. I decided to look into these laptop desks and picked this one.HEAT PROTECTION --- better than the book but some gets through. The catch is that having a memory foam pillow pressed against your lap is going to create a bit of warmth, laptop or not. If I had a brick on this lap desk, it's still something pressed into my lap.It is sturdy. The surface is smooth yet my laptop feet stick, it doesn't slide at all. The memory foam helps add some stability. Although, it's pretty firm, not squishy. It's a perfect size for my Dell XPS 13 (13.3" laptop). If you are looking for something to use with a mouse, this mini version is not the right choice. This lap desk is for when you plan on using the touchpad.Two concerns I had reading the reviews were: (1) It's too thick and will rise too high off my lap. Not true, it's a comfortable height. Look at my photo for a sense of the height. (2) The sparkly surface is too flashy. Not true. It isn't glittery, it's more like a very, very shattered glass effect. It does have a sheen to it though. I actually prefer the design over a solid color because it probably hides smudges.Bottom line ----- well made and good value. No regrets.

I bought 2 of them--one for me and one for my partner. We both really like it. The table top is hard and stable with a sleek and glossy top which is very easy to clean. Our laptops don't move around at all.We both really like the memory foam cushion since it allows us to sit and use the lap desk in any position without worrying about the cushion shifting like those that are filled with styrofoam beads. My partner uses it for his 15" laptop and it just fits.My laptop is larger (17.3") and, although this desk isn't listed as being appropriate for that large a laptop, I find it works very well. Both bottom corners extend over the sides of the desk but the laptop sits securely and doesn't move around. The memory foam handles the extra weight well and is very comfortable.

This mini lap desk is just what I've been looking for. I really like the memory foam cushion because it allows me to sit and use the lap desk in any position without worry about the cushion shifting like other products that are filled with styrofoam beads. So far, I've been using it for my 15" laptop and it just fits (two corners go past the bottom edge). The smooth surface of the lap desk has just enough traction to keep my laptop from slipping (as long as the rubber feet on my laptop are touching the surface). I've only had it for a few days, but it seems to be well made and I'm really enjoying this product. One thing to note is that the surface (black with tablet slot) has a shimmer/glitter finish to it, which I wasn't expecting but I don't mind it. More colour options would've been nice, but I'm happy with the product.

A very useful tray for the tablet. You can use it while you are sitting, but also while laying down. I have also used it to read books or writing on my notebooks.

Having recently swapped my laptop for an iPad Pro 12.9 inch tablet with attached keyboard, I needed a smaller lap tray and, fed up with the type that are filled with polystyrene beads, I came across this item and ordered it. I am absolutely delighted with it! It is perfect for my larger iPad or a small laptop and it is well made. I didn’t realise that the surface was black sparkles but this is a particularly attractive feature. The ergonomic shape is comfortable to use and the rounded edges don’t damage other surfaces like sharp corners can do eg my leather sofas and oak side tables.

This is a great product! It keeps your laptop cool and stable. It’s easy to clean, lightweight and perfect in size. We bought two and have been using them constantly now for two years. Sturdy and good design!
