Product description CD - RCA - 21 tracks - EAN 078636760520 .co.uk Now we have Greatest Hits, a 22-song collection of Cooke's pop hits in addition to the 13-song Best Of collection and the 28-song The Man and His Music. Only The Man comes close to presenting a complete portrait of the legendary soul singer: At least there are examples of Cooke's gospel and R&B material. (Any collection without "A Change is Gonna Come" is an automatic failure.) Cooke's melodious voice and deft songwriting touch are worthy of more than a single-disc compilation. If you want just the pop smashes, the sublime ballads, and infectious mellow grooves, this set will suffice. Otherwise, The Man offers a more comprehensive and well-rounded look at Cooke's legacy. --Marc Greilsamer

Just natural
To me there are few natural singers, Nat King Cole, Sam Cooke, James Reeves, Harry Bellafonte, many more, but all natural and all have a beautiful voice, but sing different songs. This is about Sam Cooke, and he has a beautiful natural voice and rythm. this is Sam Cooke at his best, these are his most famous songs, but that is what most people like to listen to.This is a fabulous CD, natural, beautiful voice and gives most people what they want to listen to of one partitular artistIf I was a woman I would fall in love with it, but I'm a man and love his songs. Sam Cooke is superb, so is his voice and so are the songs he sings and the rythm of his songs; it's a pity his life was cut short, but the songs are beautiful, Enjoy it.

Almost perfect.
I love Sam Cooke, and although the vinyl sounds amazing, I wish that 'A Change Is Gonna Come' was included.

A change is gonna come
The opening ten-minute sequence of Michael Mann's ALI is visually and emotionally stunning as we are treated to a classic scene of Cassius Clay out training for a fight while images flash of the history and time period, all set to the music of Sam Cooke - A change is gonna come.I bought a few Cooke cds after watching the movie and this is the best. You can never really go wrong with a Sam Cooke album. This is no exception. The CD contains a good number of his 'hits'. Cooke works for just about any mood I happpen to be in. I often get in my car, pop in this CD, click on "Bring It On Home To Me" and just keep playing that song over and over. For you trivia buffs out there - that's Lou Rawls doing the harmony with Cooke on this track. You Send Me, Wonderful World, Twistin the NIght Away - work well for those upbeat moments. All in all - a CD worth buying

A superb collection of Cooke's best songs
I'm not really sure how to grade this album.I like Sam Cooke's music, but I'm not THAT big a fan, so for me this is really more of a four-star album. But as far as Sam Cooke-collections go, it is superb, spanning all his best and best-known "secular" songs (the gospel material isn't here). And considering that this is some of the best, most influential soul music ever recorded, I suppose "Greatest Hits" deserves a five star rating (although these studio recordings don't have the nerve of the live renditions on Cooke's magnificent "Live At The Harlem Square Club" album). As I said, everything the casual fan needs is here. Soft, tender ballads...almost too sweet at times, but Cooke was a black man trying to make it in a world dominated by often-prejudiced white people, and sweaty R&B was not yet "comme il faux" among white listeners. And even though they may leave holes in your teeth, it's hard not to enjoy catchy, soulful little pop songs like "Win Your Love For Me", "Only Sixteen", "Love You Most Of All", "Sugar Dumpling" and "Cupid". And Cooke does rock for real on the classic R&B-workouts "Twistin' The Night Away" and "Having A Party".Besides, you listen to "Everybody Loves To Cha Cha Cha" and tell me that's not about sex.Everything on this greatest hits-package is good, most is great, and a few songs are even superb, such as Cooke's bluesy "Bring It On Home To Me" and the lovely little pop gem "Cupid".Get it. You'll recognize many more songs than you think.
