BUY THIS BOOK NOW!I really love to buy hobby books. Watercolor books, programming books, and more recently EMBROIDERY books. I've noticed that art/craft books in general have a problem of loading the books with a bunch of basic information and then dumping some projects on you that aren't that detailed OR they're very simplistic and don't really encourage exploration.THIS BOOK IS NOT LIKE THAT! This book is awesome and the author Yumiko Higuchi really put in the work to create something special here.The first third of the book is beautiful photo spreads featuring motifs and projects that range from little trivet pillows to bags and pouches. All lovely items that would be at home on any etsy wishlist - and you get all the instructions to make EVERYTHING.The second third of the book is dedicated to patterns. There is a brief section explaining the different stitches but there isn't a ton of content padding in this area and it gets STRAIGHT to the designs. This is not an idea book (thank god!), this is a pattern book that has ALL the patterns featured in the book. And there are TONS of them!! And instructions of what stitches to do where so you get it done right. And the patterns are GENEROUSLY sized! <3 <3 <3 I can't wait to use these on my Christmas cards this year!!The final third of the book are tutorials for creating the projects. If you just want the cute little cat patterns or the reindeers you can totally skip this last part of the book. I love that. The embroidery is front and center and the other stuff is optional. But it IS there for you if you want to make it and that is so awesome and amazing to me.This is honestly one of the few books I've purchased this year that I feel was worth the price. The production quality of the book is amazing, beautiful photographs. But what really makes it valuable was the patterns. There is nothing featured in the projects that wasn't available as a pattern or as a project tutorial in the back of the book.I don't know if the author ever reads reviews of their work but this is a lovely book and I hope more people see it! You did an awesome job and as someone that's really getting into embroidery it's been invaluable to me. Thank you for sharing knowledge and not just creating yet another instagram artist inspirational idea book.

Just a few different stitches and easy to follow patterns. I wish there was a list of colors used but you can figure it out from the drawings. I thought this would be a fun project to work on with two granddaughters (just turned 13), but they couldn’t stay off their phones long enough to hold interest.

This is a very well put together book of inspiring and creative embroidery projects. These are not so difficult that I would never consider attempting, in other words, NO EXCUSES! The photos are very well done, and the book make is good quality. This is my first look at Yumiko Higuchi’s work. Her embroidery style is NOT painterly (like Trish Burr and Chloe Giordano whose work I greatly admire), which means you do need to buy the entire collection of embroidery floss for a single project. Higuchi’s approach is artfully simplistic in a good way. She packs quite a bit into this little book. The projects include instructions to make several types of bags, sachets and cases, a brooch, a note card, flags, and more, not just the embroidery. Motifs include flora and fauna such as woodland critters, zoo animals, koalas, farm animals and water fowl.The book layout is as follows:brief introductionpages 4 thru 49 show artfully staged photos of the projectspages 50 and 51 list tools and materials52 thru 57 show stitch fundamentals58 thru 95 provide a well illustrated breakdown of each project which include the library of motifsAs with any how-to book, the ability to personalize each project is only limited by our imagination. It is hard to find anything to complain about, although when I like something I wish there was more of it. That said, I would suggest a slightly bolder and larger text font for better legibility. If you want inspiration for less complicated and/or less time consuming projects, you might enjoy this. Great ideas for quick gifts.

Have to admit the cover with the rabbits on it mainly got me to buy this book. Love rabbits.

There are so many beautiful embroidery books on the market today, but sometimes one catches the eye and is really spectacular. I love the simplicity of the stitches and designs, yet blown away by the sophistication and beauty of the projects.According to the books information "After graduating from Tama Art University, Yumiko Higuchi worked as a handbag designer, before discovering embroidery", and I am so glad she did, her work is beautiful and a must try designs.The book is well laid out with designs, technique, projects and patterns all easy to follow - the only thing left is which one to start with.

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Embroidered Animals by Yumiko Higuchi is such a glorious feast for the eyes of embroiders and needleworkers. Her animals and birds are simple yet beautiful, adorable, and quirky. As I turned each page, I kept saying, “oh, that’s my favorite!” She gives lovely examples of colors, fabrics, and projects such as pillows, tote bags, and much more. This is a book that every needleworker will want on their shelves.I would have given the book five stars, but I felt there could have been more in-depth embroidery instruction, so I gave four stars. Nonetheless, I already have several patterns picked out that I intend to create. Beautiful!
