Good book to learn new vocabulary for that one's starting learning french . it is very easy to understand and to follow the story.

For use in French class. Great for translating.

The book is a good French reader, but the font is too small and makes an uncomfortable read.

I bought this book when I had been self-learning French for about a year, along with a few other similar reading books. This is the best of the readers I bought. It tells the story of a woman who works at a publishing house by day, but in the evenings writes a blog about a spy named Ivana. One evening she receives a mysterious message which sends her following a trail of clues throughout Paris. Along the way, you are introduced to many interesting facts about Paris. Many readers written for learners are quite dull, but this story kept me going. However, it is not for complete beginners, and you will want to have some French under your belt before tackling this (I was about halfway through my beginner textbook).There could be many ways of using a book like this, but I have found the following to be a good method. First of all, before reading the text I listened to the audio while taking walks. I probably listened to it five or six times in total, without giving more than a cursory glance at the text. This is a great way to develop listening comprehension. Then when I was familiar with the story, I read it through without the use of a dictionary. There was still a lot of vocabulary I didn't understand, but it was clear enough that I understood the gist of every paragraph. Finally, I read it again using a dictionary to look up only the words that I felt I really needed to know.I found that this method kept me interested, kept me learning, and helped me to assimilate a lot of the language. Although I didn't understand very much of it at first, the recording is read very clearly, and I was able to get a good sense of the gist of each chapter on my first listening. Each time I listened through it I understood more of the story.One word of warning, the CD is a disc of mp3's, and so won't play on many CD players. This is because it contains nearly 2 hours of audio, so there is a lot of practice material for you.
