This book provides a fascinating look into the clothing, accessories, and hair styles of Ancient Rome. How the garments varied with region, status, and times are also covered and represented with photographs of artifacts, or detailed illustrations. The favorite fact I acquired was about how the Roman’s would wash their clothing; with urine. Due to the ammonia found in urine, it was ideal for removing stains and the job of the “Fuller” was to step into a barrel of urine and dirty clothes and stomp about. I’m assuming afterward the clothes went through a watery rinse cycle to remove and odors and prevent yellowing, but that was not mentioned. Reading is such fun isn't it???
