Floodland

Purchased this to read to my year 6 class, as it was in the recommended reading list. As an experienced year 6 teacher, it was just simply not good enough. To start with it is utterly boring, the story is too predictable, there is no depth to any plot or character, and the language and style of writing is too simple and straight forward, especially to use as a model for greater depth writing.

My daughter read this for a school thing and loved it. I borrowed it after and loved it too, brilliant book!

An easy, short read. However there was enough to give some depth to characters and to present an interesting concept of a world disappearing below the water and the despair this brings. Goldings Lord of the Flies came to mind when thinking how the children behaved when adults and order was no longer imposed. An enjoyable and thought provoking read.
