No. Only the inside is polished.

The inside of the shell I received looks scratched. Is that normal?

The inside is normally very textured but not usually scratched.

is the shell fireproof?

No it has holes on the inside edge of shell you need to be carefull so the ash doesn’t fall through them. Set on flat or stand surface as the shell gets very hot. Hope this helps.
