This is, hands down, the sharpest and best image quality lens that I have ever owned. I have shot the Panny 35-100mm (good), the 12-60 kit (good), the 12-60 pro (very good), a myriad of Olympus non highend lenses, and also the Panny 8-18mm (very good), but none renders like the Sigma 56mm. I'm shooting with a G9 and the Sigma 56mm is the only reason I'm not selling the G9. I do want to go full frame but I'm not into the expense as I do this for fun and it brings me great joy. It's a real part of getting through life. Even if I'm more of a hunter/stumble upon/take tons of shots, shooter, I love the feeling of freezing time, capturing sites that light me up. That adds great value to any time I go out for a walk with a camera. Back to the Sigma 56mm, not being a portrait shooter, for landscape, some images land in no man's land.... aspects too far away or too close, lol, but if you know how to use it or like me, experiment, you will get some amazing images. I have been getting my best (and favorite) images since getting this lens that I got here at Amazon. It was at a 10% discount in June 2023 but regardless, for what you pay, this lens is spectacular. Even in lower light, it may hunt a bit but when you hit it... SHAZAM!! Seriously, look into this lens if you can foresee this focal length working for you. I hear it's even better than the allstar Olympus 75mm. I love it!

An excellent portrait lens for MFT. The APS-C equivalent works out to be 75mm f/1.9, which is remarkably close to the classic Pentax FA 77mm f/1.8 Limited lens -- for me, the 56mm focal length is a sweet spot for portraiture that sits perfectly between the other MFT options of ~45mm and 75mm. There is so much to like here: contrast is excellent, bokeh is smooth and gorgeous, and the sharpness of this lens is unbelievable. Wide open, images are tack sharp on my 16MP sensor across the entire frame (not that you're ever likely to get the entire frame in focus at f/1.4). I've never seen anything like it. There are only two downsides that I've encountered. The first is some slight pincushion distortion, but this is corrected automatically by the camera for JPEGs (or can be corrected in software if shooting raw). It's a little disappointing that Sigma made a prime without correcting for distortion, but in real world shooting it's a lot less severe than some of the reviews had led me to believe and you'd be hard-pressed to notice it on an uncorrected image. The other downside is the focusing speed, which feels slower than my other Olympus or PanaLeica lenses. It's not bad by any means, and is really only noticeable when shifting between close-up and long-distance; I don't see this causing major issues in the real world either. But it's something to keep in mind.

Sigma 56mm F1.4 DC DN | C for Micro 4/3 system. Excellent quality build, and very nice sharp photographs. (SIGMA MAKES THEIR LENSES IN JAPAN AND THE QUALITY SHOWS) The lens hood was a little loose when I put it on the lens, then I noticed that to get it to fit tight, I had to give it a little bit of an extra twist, now there is no wobble in the lens hood, when the lens hood is reversed for storage it is a little loose, no big deal, it's not being used and just stored in my Nanuk case. The lens was well packaged when it was shipped to me and came very fast. I am one very happy customer with my new lens. I just wish Sigma would continue making more of these beautiful lenses for the micro 4/3 system!
