This is a fantastic store. It is a really good addition to my collection. The stone gives a very nice finish. The finish is nicely polish and the cutting edge is buttery smooth. I usually stop at 3000 for the kitchen knives but the 5000 finish looks much better.

The Naniwa Chosera #5000 is a high-quality sharpening stone. It produces a mirror finish on the edge of cutting tools and is especially recommended for knives made of high-carbon steel (above 0.8%) and with a hardness greater than 58 HRC. For steels with lower hardness, it’s difficult to achieve an optimal edge with this #5000 stone; in such cases, a #3000 grit stone is usually sufficient. Another point to consider is that this stone is softer than lower-grit Naniwa Chosera stones. Therefore, if you decide to separate it from the base, you must do so very carefully, as it chips easily. Even the adhesive used to attach it to the base often pulls fragments from the stone, since it doesn’t withstand mechanical stress well. It would be ideal if the manufacturer offered a base-free version of the Naniwa Chosera #5000 for those of us who prefer to sharpen using our own stone holders.
