Good office printer
Good printer for office setup, bought an open box additional tray on here for very cheap as well and works great

Takes a beating!
Pros - I have abused the crap out of this printer and it just keeps on going like the energizer bunny. Prints fast, short warmup time, excellent color printjng. Cons - the cost of replacement toner cartridges is ridiculous. Printer complains if you try to use a generic cartridge. Would I buy again? You bet!

LOVE THIS PRINTER
I'm just so happy with this printer. I've had it a bit over 6 months and just love it. No problems at all yet. Fast, quiet. I hope the fact that it's a pretty new design that it will continue to hold up over the years. I was hesitant to order a printer model that had been out for a decade.

Prints great - However, Duplex is manual
I like the printer. Prints clear and fast. However, one of the reasons I chose this printer was because it was supposed to duplex print. It only duplex prints if you feed the second page. Kinda of a bummer for the price. There is no home menu on the printer to see what the settings are. When you go into the software on the computer, there are no settings in the output for 2 sided for automatic duplex prints. The printer software is a little slow **UPDATE** 10.25.24 ... This printer has now stopped printing FAST! IWaites several minutes and the delay is frustrating. I have checked the settings, and it has an automatic energy saver eco mode and they have it set up in the settings where you can't turn it off. Shuts down after not using 1 minute.

A (mostly) solid laser printer -- (mostly) what you would expect from a business class HP Printer
HP makes reliable business-class laser printers, and the M554 is (generally) not an exception. It's sturdy, quick to wake up, quick to put its first page out, and quick to print the rest of your job. But to my surprise and disappointment, the first machine I received came from an "HP Returns" center, and sans HP foiled logo on the front of the unit. Furthermore, the unit was missing its customary orange shipping straps -- a secondary but persuasive indication that I got a "refurbished" product at best, at the new price. If I bought a second-hand machine with disclosed wear-and-tear, I'd think nothing of it. But I bought a new machine at its new price -- but that's not what I received. HP, you're a mega-giant -- I get it -- and you won't blink if I take my $880 to Lexmark or elsewhere. But, come on. Step up your QC. Amazon was great, however, and made me happy with a replacement.

Excellent color laserjet printer - 1200DPI, full native duplex, 500 sheet tray, 35ppm. I already am in love. A couple of "gotcha's" Make certain that you use /download the proper 555dn ENTERPRISE driver and configure with full admin. You may have to go into the configuration and tell the printer that it has a duplexer. If you accidently use a 553 non-enterprise driver you won't get the manually configurable options for extra trays and duplexer. Do plug in the cat6 cable and leave the usb out for the first boot. This is as per the instructions. 2nd very important note is that the printer ships with a firmware that will accept generic non-HP cartridges. DO NOT upgrade the firmware since the newer firmware issues will lock out all cartridges not manufactured/refurbished by HP.
