Q: How much wind does it take to get accurate wind-directional information?

We love this orange windsock. Doesn’t take much to fill it up. It sits in our field 150 yards from our home and the orange shows up so well in showing direction and amount of wind. Great buy.

Q: What can I use as a temporary/portable flagpole/stick to use when I fly my drone? Need to pound it in the ground slightly temporary.

I used an 8' T post and drilled a couple of holes to anchor a 1/2" metal rod at the top of the post and drilled a hole in the top of the rod and put a screw in the hole and clipped the windsock to the screw. It has complete mobility.

Q: What is the mph/kph rating on this windsock? ergo, how strong is the wind when the sock is fully extended in mph? this windsock is for a rifle range.

This is only an estimate. When the sock is fully extended, the wind speeds are between 10- 12 mph. Hope this helps. I also like it because it will give you a visual of wind direction as well.

Q: Can speed be estimated according to the stripes as it is with airport windsocks?

yes kinda sorta.. Airport socks are weighted, jointed and are on an axle that turns in the wind. These are free blowing and you will need to provide a method for it to rotate around a pole or at the top of a pole. The angle of the sock from the horizontal will give you an idea of wind speed but the airport sock is much more specific as to shape of sock and wind speed. These are very nice and usually last about 9 months in the sun, wind, rain, and other elements here on the Texas coast.
