To the person who gave this one star, shame on you. Breaking chalk is hardly the fault of the holder and more often the product of someone who doesn't know how to use it properly, or 'not recklessly'.I've used chalk chucks for nearly 20 years now, we use them in the film business for marking actors. They're invaluable and save a lot of time. I've tried and tested quite a few over the years and this one gets my vote because of one major factor that I've never seen before, and for some insane reason, it's not mentioned in the product description or any of the reviews.The chalk is dispensed with a screw release top, loosen and chalk comes out, tighten and chalk stays in place. Whereas most chalk chucks rely on a spring top which you press like a click pen. This chuck is light, it's easy to grip, hold the chalk in place firmly, and has stood the rigors of my workdays for over a month now, no breaking chalk, comes with a little tube, and I'll definitely buy another.The DELUXE CHALK KEEPER CHALK HOLDER by THE STIKKIWORKS CO, sells here on Amazon for 2 dollars more, and is really rugged and hardy, but it's spring loaded. I needed a chalk holder that I could pack into my tool bag and travel with. I think this will fill the bill. The construction is first-rate. U.S. made. Nicely machined aluminum. Almost reminds me of a Mag-lite, though not as heavy. Perfect fit for chalk that is 3/8" OD (exact).Comes in a high-grade square plastic tube for protection (as if it needed it).Uses a twist-type collet chuck. If there is a short piece stuck inside, you would have to push something slender in from the back end to knock it out. Minor inconvience owing to the no-slop fit for 3/8" chalk. The back end is open for this very reason. The black tip you see on the top is an open bushing.The knurling is a bit sharp (my wife noticed this), but if your hands are that delicate, you could easily knock the points down a bit with some fine sand paper (I would use 400 grit carbide paper if it bothered me). They even knurled the upper end in two bands to keep the pocket clip from sliding off.Some might prefer a push-button advance mechanism for frequent and continuous use as in a class-room. Personal preference I guess. I prefer the absolute quality of this product rather than taking a chance on some of the others shown at Amazon.This fits the Sargent Art 66-2012 chalk perfectly.

Of the three chalk holders I purchased, this is by far the best. The others were either too thick (plastic) or the chalk would slide in when writing on the board. This one holds the chalk well - the clip prevents it from rolling on desk - nice touch. The free, clear case is wonderful - keeps my bag clean. Yes, you have to unscrew the bottom when sliding out more chalk but that takes less than 2 seconds. I do it while talking to the class. I will be purchasing a couple more; One to have "ready to go" in case I don't want to stop for a few seconds. The other will be for colored chalk. Great product.

I hesitated to buy this because some people have noted problems while loading or unloading chalk. I'm glad I tried it though because the mechanism is quite easy to use, taking only a few seconds to insert, advance, or remove the chalk. It's attractive and incredibly well-made. Just purchased another one as a gift to a colleague.

Sturdy, but I did not realized that this holder does not have the clutch mechanism. So, you cannot easily and quickly retract chalk. I returned it and purchased a different holder (Koh-I-Noor : Mechanical Pastel Holder 5343) with clutch mechanism. Otherwise, nice design, light weight (aluminum), and sturdy.

This Chalk holder is very good. Although it doesn't fit all sizes, it's very good. The only chalk that I know of that doesn't fit it is the Ikea colorful chalk, speaking of that that chalk scratches the board. The chalk holder fits the regular chalk like at Staples. The only down sides are, when you want more chalk you have to unscrew the hand grip, and push more chalk out. The other down side is that if the chalk gets stuck, you have to use something very thin and push it, I use a plastic chopstick. This is a much better chalk holder than the Charles Leonard one, even though this may be more expensive currently, buy this one and not that other one!!!

This Chalk holder is wonderful. I love it, it is so much nicer and cheaper than the other holders I purchased at the same time. I liked it so much that I just went and purchased one of each color. Also, the chalk that comes with it is awesome(Prang). With the chalk that writes so smoothly and with the holder being so comfortable to hold, I'm in writing heaven. So much better than the $10 ones that I purchased at the same time. Gotta get more of that chalk and give the Crayola that I just bought to the kids. The twist tightening is much more effective than the push button on the others I got. I keep bumping the button and the chalk either slips in the holder or falls out but it does have a smoother grip than these and is better suited for children. Not a problem with the Commando. The grip on the Commando is a bit abrasive, but not an issue with my callused finger.BTW, if you are going to buy Prang chalk, do it from Office Max, not here. Only $ .79 per box there.

If you have used other Commando brand tools, this one is in line with a similar overall design feel and build quality. Might be overkill for a chalk holder, but it's well made.

Lo primero sería decir que es un producto "caro" en comparación con otros de 180 o 200 pesos, este me costó cre que 240. Habiendo dicho eso, creo que es un bue producto, cumple bastante bien, y no le vo inconveniente a las dos quejas principales que eh leído, es decir, no me ha sucedido que por exceso de presión en la rosca, rompa el gis, ni tampoco me parece que ese mecanísmo sea incómodo o poco práctico, pero imagino que lo sería mas si escribiera mucho en pizarrón. Por otro lado, el producto es de buena calidad, hecho en USA, fabricado en aluminio, es decir que es bastante liviano y de apariencia muy sencilla. Hasta ahora, sin queja alguna.Actualización: Sin queja y buen funcionamiento.NO HAY FORMA DE ROMER EL GIS DENTRO, Tendrías que apretar la rosca con fuerza descomunal. Por otro lado, es muy sencillo aflojarlo para acomodar el GIS. Creo que vale la pena, más si lo encunetras en buen precio. Le quedan todos los gises comerciales con forma regular (no BACO)

He tenido 2 sujetadores de gis, el primero que perdí (uñas señoras) era del tipo resorte que abre el sujetador, como lapicero.Este es más compacto y ligero, no utiliza resorte, es parecido a un portaminas, se atornilla el extremo inferior y eso aprieta el sujetador.Es de buena calidad, bien hecho, de puro aluminio excepto por el clip que es metálico y la 'tapa' superior (que no es tapa, más bien anillo que detiene la salida del gis por arriba, si se llegara a romper el gis o utilizamos varios pedazos).

Best chalk holder on the market! Secure threaded collet grip. Open ended to allow removal of broken chalk with an unsharpened pencil. I play a lot of darts, tried other holders, this is the cats meow of chalk holders.
