Lucy in the Sky

Instantly Likable
Lucy loves her boyfriend James, but just as she's about to get on a flight to watch her best friends get married in Australia, she gets a very disturbing text message that hints that he may not be as faithful as she thinks. Distraught in Australia, she takes comfort in her friends' happiness and turns her sights onto the surfer (and best friend's brother) Nathan. The complete opposite of lawyer James, Nathan is carefree and fun. Back in London Lucy has a choice - stay with James or pine for Nathan, who's far away. The decision is much harder when James becomes a bit more truthful and Nathan comes to visit. Once again, my best compliment is that I adore all of Toon's characters. They're my friends by the end, people I want to see again. The story is told very well and is far from any other chick lit. Toon never stays to the same tired plot of boy meets girl, they get together, something draws them apart, they're back together within the last few pages. She shows her variety and keeps the reader on their toes. The book was fun, fresh, and instantly likable.

Loved it...
Enjoyable read. Makes me want to start her next book asap. I will admit that her books seem to start slow, but after a while you can't put them down....at least that's how the two books I've read so far seem to go.

Pages fell out
Amazing story - i read it in less than a week. However, as i read it the first 90 pages fell out because they are cheaply glued on to the spine. Pretty disappointing. But over all the story is worth it

Recommended reading
I don't usually re-read any of the fiction that I previously read, but when Paige said she was doing a buddy read of her back catalog, I couldn't resist. It's been over ten years since I first picked this up, but I have to admit, now I am older, with life experience, I actually enjoyed this more. This romantic tale had me gripped and absorbed from the first chapters when Lucy receives "the text" (if you know, you know) and this time around I was able to invest in her dilemma on a much deeper level. The first time I read this, I couldn't understand why she just didn't follow her heart, but with a maturer mindset, I am able to understand why this was such an issue for her.Paige Toon has the ability to write stories that take the reader on an emotional journey, without being draining, and "Lucy in the Sky" does exactly that. This had me laughing to myself, as well as tearing up. This is a great read for snuggling up with, in a cozy chair on a wet and cold winter day, but would also be a perfect summer beach read. Just be prepared to lose yourself in this book for a while. If you are looking for a romantic and entertaining read, filled with humor and sentiment, this is definitely the book for you.

a little hypocritical
Lucy is about to fly back to Australia, the place she called home until she was in her late teens. Heading back for the wedding of her two best friends she is excited to be seeing them again, although she did have a crush on Sam when she was a teenager. As she is about to put her phone away on the plane she receives a text from her boyfriend James who isn’t able to make the trip with her. Suddenly her world comes crashing down and she is left unable to contact him to find out what is going on for the next few hours.James puts the text down to a childish prank by one of his workmates and Lucy attempts to push it out of her mind. However, she keeps thinking about all the silly white lies that James has said over the course of their relationship and she’s not sure whether to trust him or not – especially whilst she is away in Australia for a couple of weeks.Reunited with Molly and Sam she is starting to feel back at home when Sam’s younger brother Nathan comes over and suddenly Lucy is feeling all jittery at the sight of him. The more time she spends with Nathan the easier it is to talk to him, joining him for surfing and getting drunk together. But it can’t lead to anything, can it?Whilst I enjoyed the story, I did feel it was a little hypocritical of Lucy to be judging James for ‘cheating’ when she was lusting after Nathan whilst she was in Australia.

Terrible
This is an odd book. It really did have SO much potential but it’s all ruined by bad writing, silly plot lines and an unlikeable main character. The book starts off with a horrible, fat phobic, body shaming rant about a fellow passenger on the plane occupied by the main character. She even refers to him as “Fatty”. I have noticed fat phobia is a common occurrence in Paige Toon books so whilst I was disappointed, I wasn’t particularly surprised to find it here. The writing is sloppy and unrealistic. The characters will repeatedly say the name of the person they are talking to, which doesn’t happen in real life ever. Eg “What are you talking about James?” “You know what I’m talking about Lucy”. “No I don’t James”. “Yes you do Lucy”. It becomes unbelievably irritating by the end of the first chapter and carries on throughout the whole book. And that’s another thing, no one in this book is capable of greeting another character without simply stating their name. There is no “hello” or “hi how are you”, it’s just “Lucy!” over and over again. The running theme of the two main characters telling each other jokes is tiresome, especially as the jokes aren’t humorous in the slightest. There is one scene in the book where Nathan finds a joke told by Lucy so extremely hilarious that he repeatedly slaps the glass of a tank in the aquarium they are visiting and nearly gets thrown out by one of the security guards - yeah right. It helped me a lot during this book to imagine Nathan, Lucy, James and co all had severe learning difficulties as that helped to explain some of the crappy dialogue and childish behaviours. It is a shame as this book could have been good, sadly it’s actually a slog to get through.

I couldn’t put it down
I absolutely adored this beautiful love story from the off. Lucy is such a likeable, relatable character; I know that I’m going to miss her now that I have finished the book.It opens with Lucy on a long haul flight from London to Sydney when she receives a devastating message. She has no other choice but to continue her journey. The author’s descriptions of Sydney took me back there - she has obviously spent time in Australia. Lucy’s life - her friends and family are developed when Lucy returns to London. But she returns facing a dilemma. She is torn between a life in Sydney and a life with her friends, family, job and security in London. I was willing her to make the right decision. Read it yourself and see if you think she did. I will certainly be reading more books by Paige Toon!

Flying high with emotions
Omg I adored this book so much! I have so many feelings! Nathan was just the cutest and very quickly became 1 of my favourite book BFs 💓James is just a tosspot. I couldnt stand him from the very beginning and never trusted him either. In all honesty I dont think I've ever met a decent James 🤭🤣Lucy did become abit annoying at times but in her situation I kind of understand her thought process through all this.I'm so glad I've started to read Toons books (FINALLY) & can't wait for the next one💓
