This is the best compass I have ever owned. I love the feel of the metal, it's light and responds immediately and accurately anyway you turn it. Worth every penny.

If you spend your time in the outdoors professionally, you probably know about SUUNTO compasses. I used this model when I did land surveying. I was so impressed with the accuracy and quality, it stuck with me and I always intended to obtain one. I recently purchased one to teach my kids how to find their way around the wilderness without electronics. This fits the bill as it's all analogue, no batteries, no motherboard, no apps, no firmware, no big data… just old school use of earth's magnetic poles.The only thing to be aware of is that the compass that the dial sits in a liquid filled chamber. It's is what makes this compass so good, especially when you use the optics to follow a bearing. However, the seals can eventually go if the compass is banged around carelessly. If properly cared for, it should last a lifetime.

I spent 7 years as a surveyor, eventually party chief, and carried one of these most of that time. If you learn to orient yourself to a bearing instead of a direction and departure, it's about the simplest way you can make sense of maps and use them to your advantage.I used one of these in fair weather and foul, and even used them near metallic equipment and structures I thought might throw them off - but unless you were very close to such, it didn't matter.If I were in a survival situation, the first things I'd want would be a knife and a source of fire - the next things would be a map and my Suunto.

This one replaced my old one that I bought in 1974....after 50 years of use it needed to be replaced! How can you beat that.

I love this compass, hands down the best I have had for surveying. I was looking to buy a second since I just bought this one a year ago. I’m absolutely shocked The price went from $113 to $165. I understand inflation but this is crazy.
