Truly Educational with a Bonus: Fun
My 4-almost-5-year-old has been asking me questions about how excavators and other pieces of heavy machinery move, so I ordered this thinking it offered the ultimate demonstration. It did. Yes, that’s below the recommended age. I had to do the bulk of the assembly, but the moment I connected two syringes and let him operate one of the plungers, a light bulb came on. And then when the claw portion got connected, forget about it. I couldn’t have imagined the educational moments any better. He is also finding it more fun than I expected just using it as a toy. He got the control coordination down pretty quickly, if not the finesse (more on that below), and it has been the favorite toy for the past few days.I can forgive them the unstable base (screw it down to a board if you need to, you can’t expect more without the thing being much larger) and the fact that things start to pop when you’re zealous with the controls. Those things are redeemed by the affordable price, the clever design, and the exceptional educational value.

Just baaaarely enough line, get a ruler
If you cut ANY extra line, you'll have problems. There's just enough done with 50cm or slightly less. We cut a bit over and there was nowhere near enough. Make sure you've got a way to measure those 50cm! Printing a measurement on the box would have been extremely helpful at that point. I'd also recommend getting a bead or something small to tie the knots around to make it a lot easier to start the line through the holes without pulling it through. Tying a pair of knots in the exact same spot, so the string wouldn't slide through the opening, was a challenge for a 9 year old. Having a bead to tie the cord around would have made this much easier for kids. That being said? We did get it together and it works well, my kid is still playing with it a month later, and her cousins enjoyed it too. VERY MUCH worth buying, but remember the ruler and use beads if you have them, and it'll be a great gift/toy!

Consider before buying!
Honestly, only buy if you have to complete this for cub scouts. It's better than the DIY cardboard with straws and yarn but not by much. The string you have to thread through teeny holes was not fun and somewhat uncooperative. We used tweezers half the time. So something that should have taken 5 minutes to assemble required parental help and made us want to cry especially when one of the strings frayed then the center cord pulled away from the stretchy outer layer of the string. They don't give you extra string so we had to make it work. My kids played with them for 5 minutes then did not care.

Great Gift for preteens
Ordered this as a Christmas present for my 11 year old, as he loves science. It arrived on time and well packaged. He really enjoyed assembling this Robotic hand. The hardest part for him was tying the fishing line where it was supposed to be tied. I liked that it was somewhat anatomically correct and educated him on how the tendons work. Now for this to be educational on anatomy you would have to know the anatomy to explain to then as they assemble it. My son thought it was cool he has since been going around the house with his "Bionic Hand" (as he calls it) using it for everything. The name threw me off when i ordered. I expected some kind of electronics to it, which it did not have. It was reasonably priced. And would order again.

Great learning toy
Purchased this as a gift for a grandson. It was selected because of its introduction to robotics. I'm told that he really likes it. I grew up with Erector sets, so I view this as a painless and fun way to learn STEM technology. It was reasonably priced, so if he likes it over time, I can feel comfortable with similar gifts in the future. I didn't mark the "Thickness" and "Warmth" stars because this is not a glove but a robotic hand.

BROKEN
This was broken when it arrived. It had not been opened since I was saving it as a gift. When I gave it as a gift and it was finally opened, it was broken. It was too late to return it.
