Purchased the book as a reference to Java Programming am new to this programming and was looking for something complete for the beginner. It is very complete as far as I can see and was a great reference for what I was doing in regards to online training. I would recommend for new Programmers.

Great book, explains well with good examples
I was using this to teach myself Java and I found the explanations very clear and the examples well worth completing. You need to have an IDE to make the most of this, Eclipse is excellent and fully functioned but difficult to learn. It also helps to have had previous programming experience as much of the book assumes that you understand various programming constructs but need to learn how to handle them in Java.

A well written book
The topics on the book are easy to grasp thanks to the author's simple explanations using simple examples.Although it may feel like the topics are covered in depth but it isn't. There are other books which go deeper after you've grasped the basics of Java. This book is good for beginners and intermidiates but not good for absolute beginners who are starting programming from zero. The book also doesn't teaches best practices for writing a program. It is as it says a reference for Java and not a manual for programming applications. This is absolutely a great book to go through if you feel like your basics on Java isn't good or complete.
