Highly recommend for an intelligent and absorbing read
Well written, comprehensive analysis of issues faced by our country. As a world renowned journalist who has seen some of the most important and powerful events of our times unfold in front of her eyes, she has provided a closer look at these issues and encourages us to look at these again through new eyes.I did not find the book to be biased against any particular political party. She has questioned and wherever applicable criticized BJP and Congress in equal measures. Her passion, especially on women issues, Kargil and Kashmir, is palpable and makes for an engaging read.Highly recommend for an intelligent and absorbing read.PS: All this political vendetta against her and the rampant misogyny against any opinionated and strong woman is fooling no one. The incredible vitriol in the reviews made me even more interested in the book to see what it was about. So thank you to all the trolls out there for getting me interested in an intriguing and interesting book.

Read it only if someone ELSE pays for it and that too as a comic strip and not a serious work.
A travesty of history and political facts........this book reads more like an opinion piece rather than serious commentary. It manages to belittle itself through the use of circular logic in interpreting social trends and national discourses. While being critical is at par with any such work-this book goes to comical extremes trying to denigrate a nation and a people. The only comparisons are probably overtly racist late nineteenth century European commentaries on various colonized African nations and their peoples. The contents make one wonder about the background, political inclinations and even integrity of the writer.Based on her journalistic work it seemed to be a good book to try out.Sadly I feel like I have been duped into buying what is the equivalent of pulp fiction in its category.Buyer beware...........this is veritable hogwash.

How low can you go!?
The lowest is 1 star so I couldn't give zero! What a piece of crap written by a troll. She's now tweeting that people who reviewed her on Amazon have poor grammar. Huh, perhaps someone should tell her that the lies she's been reporting for years is clearly visible in her scrapbook. I'm amazed why she has not been sued till now. Well, I hope she gets what she highly deserves soon - imprisonment!

Bad Read. Do not waste money.
Author has built a career by doing nothing other than painting India, Indian society in general in a very bad light. The writing has very little facts a passes of her own prejudiced opinions as facts. Barkha is known to downplay genocide of Kashmiri Pandits by putting it some pseudo economic context.India watcher must watch more sensible books on such topics. I will highly recommend Rajiv Malhotra's books or Arun Shourie's Books on wide variety of topic. Rajiv might be biased but is very focused on facts.

Don't waste your precious time and money on this book!
This book is nothing but the rantings and ravings of a frustrated political broker masquerading as an unbiased journalist.First of all we need to understand the background of the author in order to understand the motives behind the syphilis infected drivel which she has written. Please listen to the infamous Nira Radia tapes where this so called independent and unbiased journalist has been caught on tape selling herself to politicians and their middle men. Here is the link: [...]If you delve deeper you will uncover more evidence. For the last 14 years at he behest of her political paymasters the author has been pursuing a relentless media trial and campaign to put Narendra Modi behind bars for his alleged role in the 2002 communal riots in Gujarat. Not only have all her efforts fallen flat but Narendra Modi has been given clean chits by various commissions of inquiry and the highest courts in India. To add to her ignominy, chagrin and discomfiture Narendra Modi has been elected the Prime Minister of India and she finds herself on the rubbish heap of journalism. By writing this book the author is trying to reinvent herself as an 'eminent writer' and 'intellectual'!

Some books worth skipping
Don't waste your time and money on biased writer. You will not gain any insight on real politics and psych of India. Its a written from a point of view which lack journalistic integrity. Myopic and jaundiced eyes of author renders the book unreadable. Skip it.

Don't waste your time and money
Please don't waste your time and money on this book. Poorly written by the most biased journalist India has ever seen. Her third grade journalism is better than her misadventure in book writing.

Like the others
Barkha and her ilk are known as presstitutes for a reason. Facade of reason, righteous anger over the real agenda of breaking India. I sometimes wonder about the source of immense hatred that she carries with her for anything Hindu and Bharat.Like the others, I will request the readers to read Rajiv's Breaking India.
