General Tools TS04 ToolSmart Bluetooth Connected Digital Multimeter, Auto-Ranging with NCV Detector, CAT III 600V Safety Rated

I've been an electrical engineer since the days when the Simpson 260 was the multimeter to have. Now it's the Fluke family. If you have the bucks, buy Fluke. But even if you don't, or don't need the accuracy and durability of a Fluke DMM, you DO want to make sure that the meter you buy doesn't turn into a charcoal briquet in your hand when measuring inside a breaker panel. That's where the CAT ratings come in. That said, anybody can print any rating they want on the front of a meter from the far side of the world. When I see a safety rating, I ask, "Sez who?" In the case of this General Tool DMM, it's ETL, that's who. ETL is one of many "NRTL" test labs (National Recognized Testing Laboratory) along with the likes of UL, TUV, SGS, and others. A safety rating doesn't mean beans unless you know the recognized lab that tested it. I bought this meter to have at my office desk for occasional use. I have a pair of Flukes at home. But if this General Tool DMM were the only one I had, I'd be OK with it. It won't be mistaken for a Fluke 87. For 95% of what I need a meter for, though, this one will fill the bill.

Just got it, so I don't know how long the 9v battery will last, especially with blue tooth activated.No back lit screen, but the blue tooth display on my android phone works, and stays connected over 20 ft.The leads are not comparable to my Amprobe, a bit short, but then Amprobe leads cost almost what I paid for this meter. They are good quality, and well insulated though.The high contrast lettering makes the settings easy to dial.The non contact voltage sensing is an added feature. It finds 110 v wires in the wall, and lets me know if any are live. Hard to tell which wire is hot in a tight bundle since it's so sensitive though.Micro ampere reading is good to have too.The rubberized case feels solid and durable, but the dial isn't recessed too much so it may be fragile if thrown in a toolbox.Overall, lots of features. Very happy with the purchase.

The bluetooth application does not work at all. Worthless remote meter and cannot use your smartphone to read the meter readings.

The functions are very useful and we'll done. The unit is solidly constructed and has a rugged feel.The app that comes with it to read the btle is completely useless. It is obviously a generic app, probably made by the btle chip manufacturer and as little to no value to this product.Luckily the btle configuration is easy to reverse engineer and there is a JavaScript library to interact with this tool. I use a simple webpage that displays a chart and allows downloading the data. It fixes all the shortcomings of the app.

I have trouble on some spots with bad ligthing to read the display ( I used bluetooth to read in these spots with my phone). It is one of the best Multimeter I have had. Highly recommended. Display Light would be welcome, as some other options I saw had this feature (but missed in other important ones).Also the NCV detector works well with wood walls, but i work with many brick walls (thin walls) and it is not sensitive enough (to be fair few i tested are).

I'm sure it's a fine multimeter, but the whole reason I bought it was so I could use my phone to remotely see the readings. Come to find out that the Google play store does not carry this app anymore for newer android phones.

This is an amazing deal, does everything I want and more. I did not realize it has a thermocouple to test vent heat. I only have one quibble, the tips aren't sensitive enough. Sometimes I have to stab a bit to get a connection. Could also be sent with a cheapo case to hold parts.
