What every player needs (if self taught)
First, people don’t know how to write reviews. Some people say there’s no audio, or needs a CD. False. The online track is easily accessible. Can change the speed without changing the pitch.Second, whatever you play if you’re being self-taught if you have not had formal instruction. This should be your first book.Third, after playing for years, I learn something new in each of the first three pages. If one lesson is $40 then why not buy this book for half the price and get 13 lessons?I have about 15 Hal Leonard books and they are superbly written with on-line music with an instrument and then without to play with tempo.

Great book for rhythm studies
My son is using this book to practice rhythm exercises. He is learning so much so quickly. The book is easy to use and quickly builds on the introductory concepts, though never seems too challenging.

Good Book!
Nicely written. But, no CD! You NEED a CD with these types of books.

Perfect touch-up on counting in English
I know how to read rythms and count -- in my native language. Yet taking lessons, I found myself oddly out of my comfort zone in English and this book provides the practice I need to ingrain the new patterns of counting in my brain. Most other books focus on understanding how rhythms break into patterns and how to read music, this book provides the essential skill of counting for instrumentalists, taking the step from mentally reading to keeping the internal pace, without depending on a metronome. And yes, when learning a foreign language, I find that comfort with mental counting is THE very last piece that falls in place!

No Composer Work Explained
I don't like it. The examples show no application except on the same note. I'm more confused and frustrated then before.

Great!
Well paced and great guide for any musician who needs some guidance in rhythm. I’ve played bass a long time but never had a good foundation in this area (i know right 👀🙈). Indispensable book for learning rhythms and counting…sounds dull, but if you’re serious about improving your musicianship, you need this!
