Could this be clamped on a bar above my work space and used in a sort of upside down manner? There is no nearby wall or desk.

It has to be in it's upright position. The way it's build weight (from above) keeps it in place. If you try to mount it upside down it won't work.

What diameter does the pole/pipe/mount need to be to fit or work with this extension arm?

For this arm it is 1.38" (35mm). It is not compatible with the LX HD mount which has a 1.57" (40mm) pole

Will this work with the LX Dual Stacking Arm in order to have a longer arm at the top height?

The top arm is of fixed length and is non adjustable except for up-down tension. The extension allows the unit to expand the length from the wall bracket to the device. The device is raised in height by the height of the extension somewhere round six inches. Only two extensions can be used (raising height 12 inches aprox) and bracket on wall can be mounted lower or higher to set the device to be at the desired level. Excellent quality and durable product, mine is used with a laptop that folds away on the wall when not in use.
