Can i put these on the end of strained wires that are meant to go into a breadboard. do i need a crimping tool if so what type (dupont???).

You would be looking for Wire Ferrules and yes with those you would need crimps to make them stay at the end of the wire. There are connectors ( Not Ferrules) they take the same size pin on both male and female sides. They are mostly for making circuit board stacks like the Arduino Shields or addon that plugs right in on top of the board. Can be used for IC and Transistor sockets but not as good as the real thing.
