I tried this with a ceramic water crock and it leaked all over the place. Anyone have any suggestions or do I just need to bu a different base?

I have been using a ceramic crock and it works beautifully. I use a plastic collar as well...maybe that helps create the seal? I have not had any problems-it has been an amazing purchase. Make sure you don't overfill-that is the only time we had a leak!

how much water does the bottle hold?

This container holds about 2 1/2 gallons, but my ceramic dispenser holds another 2 or 3 gallons and this works great. Just keep it full and the instructions say don't let the filter dry out. It looks like 5 gallons but a little less than half of the bottle is the holding tank for the filtering.

Any idea how well this works with softened water? Does it eliminate the salt taste?

I'm not sure about salt but my water has a lot of chlorine taste and smell and it really eliminates that so it would probably work for salty tastes as well its like 7 or 8 levels of filtration.

I have an amazing cooler, using a reg 5 gal bottle, it fills 16 oz glass in 4 seconds flat. Does the filter on this slow it down ?
