Great for pet (& kid) stains & for Halloween and flourescent color use.
Just got 2 of these this week. Sturdy aluminum construction (not cheap feeling). Matte black looks nice. I bought them to illuminate flourescent paint at a church play (in Hell). Works great at home and you can see the same things as normal flourescent tube light fixtures. Fits in your hand nicely. Feels solid. Very bright light; you don't have to get close to what you're shining on. The purple light imagine shines onto objects like a regular flashlight (circular focus on central area) but also illuminates surrounding areas. While inspecting the bathroom we got to see just how much handsoap and toothpaste our kids have been splashing onto the wall around the sink (see photo). So many more things you can see with this light. If you'd rather not know, don't turn it on. ;)At 3ft from a wall, the main circle of the beam measured approx 12in diameter on the wall. (See photo) but it illuminates the whole wall. It actually works better on flourescent items if you don't shine the light directly at the object (because it's bright and you can't see the glow as well). The surrounding glow lights it up nice (see softball in photo)I want to address the flickering or LEDs going out like I read earlier. One of the 2 started doing that right after installing batteries. The batteries go into the end of the handle but the handle part also screws into the light head end. Mine was a little loose but after snugging it together by turning it a little it's all good and doesn't flicker no matter how much I shake it. Wasn't making good contact because it wasn't tight. That's all. Will be trying both lights tonight at our church play but based on what I've seen at home so far, I think they are going to work great.

Reveals a lot.
This light gives off good black light. It picks up a lot of things on bathroom walls and sides of toilets and on carpet that are not visible to the naked eye. I'm not sure just how well it differentiates between urine and other types of fluids, including cleaning fluids. I bought this specifically to find pet urine, but since it picks up old spit and soda spills as well, it's hard to identify areas where my pets may have urinated. So for my specific purpose, it isn't as helpful as I had hoped. But it (grossly) has revealed a lot of areas that need to be cleaned and wiped down more carefully in the bathroom.

Don't expect a C.S.I. episode
As I recall and may be mistaken It is not possible to produce true UV light with LEDs but this is a decent compromise to a tube bulb in that it less fragile and more portable. This unit is well made and feels heavy duty in hand and operation. It will light up organic matter and fluorescing materials well. The organic matter is much harder to see and you may get better results from a pre-spray like the crime shows always use?.I think for the price, we had a bit of "fun" looking at the kitchen and bathrooms... Yikes! Our toddler loves seeing so many of his toys glow - brightly I might add.Beware that this spectrum of light (although not true ultraviolet) can damage your eyes with extended use so either get UV filter glasses or better yet just use for short intervals.

Works well but may creep you out!
Ok, this thing is basically going to creep you out. I bought it thinking it would reveal where things may have spilled on the carpet...and it did that far too well! Where it got creepy was using it in the bathroom....where I suddenly felt like I was a terrible house keeper, or perhaps was a 19 year old college guy. The marks/stains/whatever around the toilet area were/are terrible! It turns out, a lot of them cannot be wiped/cleaned off...perhaps urine has etched the porcelain?

Shedding light on the subject....
I bought this because my cat recently started spraying indoors. It appears to be just a black light. If you are looking for stains on white fabric, it won't show anything. I know for a fact he sprayed my white shower curtain but the light didn't show anything. I did see a few stains on darker fabric and walls. When I shined it around the toilet area I about died!!!! Without the light it looked completely clean. That was an eye opener.

Didn't find dog pee
Seemed sturdy & bright enough. Can see white in the bathroom in the toilet bowl with the lights turned off st night. It's not gross like some describe but just white. I can't see any indication on our carpet of dog pee but I can smell it. Our carpet is multi-colored with some light strands- not sure if that is interfering with the black light & if that's why this doesn't work well for us. On the other hand, the toilet is all white & I do detect "stains". For me- doesn't work for what I wanted. :(

Works great!
Love this handy little UV light. I bought 4 of them. One for my camper to check for scorpions, Two as gifts to friends who stay in hotels so they can check for bedbugs and clean sheets and I kept the other for myself when traveling and staying in hotels. We've already used it to check for pet stains in the carpet. While it was disheartening to see all the places the dog had marked, it made for easy detection and clean up.

Worked well the first night, but then began to crap out...
This blacklight has a fairly substantial body (not cheap plastic) and the 51 LEDs emit a very bright UV light, but after a couple uses the light began to flicker and dim, and now requires frequent shaking or tapping to operate at full strength. It's great when it works at full strength, but the nearly constant flickering and dimming is very frustrating and unacceptable. There's some kind of problem with the electrical contacts in this flashlight, which I believe is caused by a poorly designed and defective battery holder (cylindrical cartridge-type holder that holds 3 AA batteries). I will be returning this blacklight and will purchase another brand of better quality.
