The Organic Chem Lab Survival Manual: A Student's Guide to Techniques

I am a student at Purdue University, this book was required for my CHM 25501 and it is honestly the most helpful book ever! Each week there were assigned chapters pertaining to the lab techniques required for the lab. The writing style is not like most text books, it's more playful. It has everything you could possibly need to know for an Organic Chemistry lab. I rented this book for the semester but I plan on buying it because I definitely think I'll be referencing it further down the road.

This text book is honestly one of the best textbooks I have ever used/owned. The style of the author is very conversational as if he was actually there talking you through every one of the techniques that you encounter in Organic Chemistry Lab. The book is very easy to understand and after reading each subsequent chapter I went in to lab, every time, extremely confident in the technique(s) that I would be using for that particular lab.

Our chemistry department decided to require this book so that they wouldn't have to write the minutiae of all the procedures in the lab manual. Instead, they just reference the associated procedure in the manual.But the lab instructors still have to cover the minutiae of the procedures because Zubrick causes more confusion that he does clarity. After attempting to do something the way he describes it, I discover there is a much easier way to do it.On top of this, Zubrick spends more time trying to be funny so that students will think he's their friend, than he does adequately explaining the procedures for a technique.So, if this book is required for your course, do yourself a favor and find a used copy of a previous edition. If enough people stop buying the new editions, maybe they will stop publishing this title.

Shipped to me super fast when my professor waited until the last minute to post the syllabus with required readings and then expected us to have several chapters read by day 1. Exactly what I expected, great price, and easy to read. Detailed illustrations help with visualizing procedures as well.

Even the size of the book is smaller than I thought, but it's a good one, it explains things pretty clearly, it's a required book for the class!

after being away from chemistry for many years, this manual is helping me immensely getting up to speed with the practical and synthetic aspect of chemistry. However, though this book will provide confidence and essential skills for research work in the lab, the price is far too high.

Este manual es útil para resolver muchas situaciones no previstas en la literatura.Es útil tanto para el estudiante como para el profesional.
