My 8 year old grandson very, very recently took a liking to compasses. Strangely, I like them too (!). I've got about 6-8 different ones, so you know what I mean.So here on the eve of Christmas, I thought I'd look for a book about compasses written for kids--something his own other than some YouTube feature or stuff off the internet. When it arrived, I thought I'd glance through it, and lo-and-behold found myself flipping page after page. I'm no kid (that's been decades and decades and decades ago), but the book really proved a bit more than just interesting. It taught me a thing or two to be truthful! The plan now is to sit and read it alongside my grandson [ ... 1) to sit with my grandson, and 2) to read it again(!)]

I bought this for my daughter for her school's wilderness retreat, where there was going to be an orienteering lesson. She found it easy to read, and when the time came, she was able to take a leadership role for her group.Her only complaint was that she would have liked more pictures.
