Bob's Red Mill Arrowroot Starch / Flour, 16 Ounce (Pack of 1)

Bought organic because I have severe allergies and like to use this for consumption as well as cosmetics. You can tell it's good quality and works well for both and the Amazon price was good. Be careful though, if you want to get all the air out of the bag by squeezing it. Sudden explosions of arrowroot starch can be VERY messy!

Made homemade deodorant for the whole family using this. 1/2 cup of arrowroot powder, 1/2 cup baking soda, 5 tbs of fractionated coconut oil, and drops of essential for your desired fragrance. I made lemon lime (bergamot and lemon), vanilla lavender, and cinnamon vanilla deodorants. They protect longer than store bought brands, they smell better ( or not at all, your call) and with those measurements these last WAY longer than a stick would.

I am very pleased with this product. I use it mainly to thicken sauces without making them cloudy. Used judiciously, this can add a velvety smoothness to an au jus without making it syrupy. I love it for making gravies where I want them to stay mostly transparent so I use it with lamb stocks when I am making a sauce for rack of lamb or leg of lamb or in beef au jus when I need a sauce for a standing rib roast. And unlike flour or corn starch, this does not have any flavor of its own. If you do buy and use this, add it at the end of cooking though, after your sauce cools a little. Unlike flour, arrowroot loses thickening power rapidly as it simmers. All in all, I highly recommend this product.

Works on hot soup

I've been using arrowroot as a replacement for cornstarch for health reasons. It's hard to get used to because arrowroot can't go into anything boiling or it won't work, but other than that, I haven't had any problems.

This stuff is great for healthy baking with out wheat. Has virtually no flavor to modify what you are baking (unlike coconut or tapioca starch). I use it in baking with exotic flours that do not have much starch in them (almod flour, teff, garbonzo, etc.) so that the end result holds together better. Also works as a replacement for corn starch for thickening -- tho it takes some practice.

Bobs Red Mill does it again! They have provided an alternative to wheat flour and corn starch. Arrowroot powder has become a staple in our home in the last 6 months. Bobs Red Mill offers a product that is silky and consistency of high quality. I use this product to thicken sauces and gravies, make baked goods, and make homemade deodorant. I also apply it directly to my inner thighs to avoid the nasty rashes caused by chub rub. It keeps my legs silky soft and provides a gentle glide as I walk around for hours.
