Q: Bottom has a bar to keep straight. does top have a bar all across top?

Bar on the top where hanger is. Bottom has a welted seam but no bar. Never had a problem using it.

Q: Does it have a double zipper on the bottom clear compartment so one can open from the middle rather from one side?

There is one zipper on the bottom clear compartment. It starts halfway down on the right side and zippers across the top and ends half way down the left side. It would be possible to open it from the side but you can only reach things from the middle to the top.

Hi Carol, Thank you for your question. When the toiletry bag is empty the dimensions are 12.5*1*9.8. When the toiletry bag is full it depends on what you put in it.
